This is, simply put, the right thing to do.
The right thing morally, Mr. Howe has given so much to this franchise, this is their last chance to give something back, even if it's only to his legacy.
The right thing for the fans. We're here, signing this petition. It's clearly what we want.
The right thing for the franchise. Joe Louis Arena was built not just to honor Mr. Louis, but to symbolize the spirit of Detroit, and the Red Wings in particular. The Red Wings built themselves around the idea of players having a legacy here. What better way to honor that foundation, and revitalize that foundation, than to rename this arena after the man himself, Mr. Howe. Mr. Hockey.
And lastly, the right thing for Mr. Illitch. Mr. Illitch will see more revenue for his company, AND goodwill from the fans, by using the name, 'Gordie Howe Arena,' than, 'Little Caesars Arena.'
