The city finally confirmed the street name changes. It was a long and grueling process that left me exhausted, but I am grateful that we stayed the course until the very end.

Demonstrate solidarity with the people of Ukraine by renaming Green Street – home of the United States’s Russian Consulate in San Francisco – to Heroes of Ukraine Street, Russia Avenue to Ukraine Avenue, Moscow Street to Mariupol Street.

As you are reading this petition, the entire 40-mln nation of Ukraine is fighting for its freedom against Russian aggression. People of various professions are being armed to protect their native cities, thousands are volunteering to join the Armed Forces to bravely protect their country. Civilians spend their nights in bomb shelters because residential areas of Kyiv and other cities are being shelled from army-grade missiles.

Living away from Ukraine, it is sometimes hard to know how you can support the people under attack. However, there is one way you can, simply by supporting the campaign to rename Green Street to Heroes of Ukraine street, Russia Avenue to Ukraine Avenue, Moscow Street to Mariupol Street. This would be a simple but incredibly meaningful act of symbolic support for the courageous Ukrainian people who defend the values of freedom and democracy from the 2nd strongest military power in the world.

As you know, Russia with its leader Vladimir Putin demonstrates quite poor historical knowledge about Ukraine. Russia seems to forget that Ukraine is a sovereign state. At the same time, Ukraine is the homeland of people whose long struggle for independence has been a testament to their unyielding, indomitable spirit and free will. Walking down the Ukraine Streets for Russian representatives to their embassies and consulates all over the world would be a great daily reminder of Ukraine's sovereignty with democracy and freedom as its highest values.

Several European countries have already changed the Russian embassy’s address line for Ukraine. Albania gave part of a street a new name "Free Ukraine Street," Lithuania renamed a street to "Ukrainian Heroes Street" and Latvia – "Independent Ukraine Street".

The United States has a great track record in solidarity with what is right. Today cities in 41 states have streets named after Martin Luther King Jr. Chicago’s Lake Shore Drive was renamed after Jean Baptiste Pointe DuSable, a Haitian-born Black pioneer and trader who was the first non-Indigenous settler of the city. In Downtown Washington D.C. two blocks across from the White House became Black Lives Matter Plaza. New Hampshire Avenue in front of the Saudi Arabian Embassy to be designated as “Jamal Khashoggi Way,” honoring the Washington Post journalist killed in the Saudi consulate in Turkey in 2018. Let’s do it again for Ukraine!

We call for global solidarity and address officials, mayors, activists to initiate and support the renaming of the streets with Russian Embassies and consulates into Ukraine Streets all over the world!

Thank you for standing with Ukraine and adding your name. Please share widely to get more support.

The emails I receive from the city council are repetitive and avoid the real issue of renaming these streets. I am drained from the constant pushback yet I refuse to let this matter fade into the background.

The momentum behind this renaming effort has grown into something I honestly did not expect. It is exhausting to keep pushing against the current, but seeing this level of public acknowledgment makes me believe the city will have to listen eventually.

My name is Arsenii and I am 18 years old. It pains me to see how the occupiers are destroying my beloved home country. My friends in Odessa, I pray every day that they answer me every morning. Please vote. I ask you as a person.

I am horrified by the barbarous behavior of the Russian army towards civilians. This is the least we can do

I’d rather the Embassy were closed honestly, but short of that please rename the street.

I believe that by renaming streets around consulates of known bad actors of the world, they will be forced to come face-to-face with the reality of their horror show. It also reminds the citizens of their own freedoms and how our democracy should be protected like how ordinary Ukrainians have given up everything to protect theirs.

This petition is important to me because I live in Ukraine and want to share information about the war with all countries of the world.
