The Village of Hempstead tax burden has been extremely heavy for quite some time. No additional PILOTs are wanted in the village at this time and was definitely not discussed during any public meetings when presenting the renaissance project. As a taxpayer in the Village of Hempstead I am imploring you too reject this application for a PILOT.
Do not authorized or endorsed more apartments being built in Hempstead. We are the highest paying village with the worse school system. When will people stop lining their pockets at the expense of the community. This needs to stop now!
I am a community leader and have lived here 24yrs. I have attended most of the meetings on the downtown redevelopment project. Trustee Don Ryan is spot on about the deception and greed of the developers. As a homeowner I was pleased to hear about the plans to redevelop downtown. What happened to the plan? The Mayor gave "away the store," and the developers did a bait and switch. Why should the tax payers be burdened by subsidizing an unwanted project that is not part of the original downtown beautification plan and will effect us financially? Over crowding of our schools, traffic congestion, and an added strain to our infrastructure will be a direct result of this project. NOT AT OUR EXPENSE!!!
They have not lived up to the spirit of what was originally proposed. Original idea was to reinvigorate Main street, not take over parking which is already used extensively. This whole thing has been bulldozed through without a lot of public input. Too often, hearings have been held in obscure places at odd hours. Traffic in that area is already often in gridlock. Effect on our schools will also be very negative. And taxpayers in Hempstead, already overtaxed, will bear the cost of any PILOTs allowed.
Hempstead does not need a project that will add to it's population. Nor does it have the school space for additional students. It will be taxing to the teachers in those schools if the class size is increased due to this project. Let your voices be heard NOW and TODAY!

Stop the overcrowding-save Hempstead Village. This developer has been given a "Gravy Train with Biscuit Wheels". Tax Payers should bring a class action law suit to Stop the Developer from developing the parking lots until the Board of Trustees know the value of the land they are giving away, also Article 78(Show Cause Order) should be filed by the Tax Payer/Resident to stop in it's tracks,

The village government gives away the property to the developer, he builds more large apartment buildings we don't need and IDA sticks the already overtaxed homeowners with the tax bill. Great deal for the developer, another nail in the coffin of the once vibrant Village. All the while the busiiness district is being hollowed out by property tax exempt institutions.
