I urge the government and the good people of Quebec to stop the use of these offensive terms and names, but also to retain/maintain memorial plaques and monuments that acknowledge the invaluable presence of people who have contributed to our history. The issue of language, terminology and names, and how they are used by a society to memorialize and protect the past as well as teach unity and tolerance to future generations, is one upon which our nation depends. Thank you.

An offensive and still hurtful term does not get to be classified as a "historical" culture marker: it is in recognizing our mistakes and fixing them that makes a country great, not maintaining damaging memories.

Calling people by racial epithets is not a civilized behavior. Certainly such words ought not be enshrined on monuments.
