I feel ignorant that I never knew of the existence of these appaling names, but even more ashamed that these places were officially named like this, in Québec!!! The removal/change of these names should be done now, no questions asked.

Espérons que nos concitoyens et représentants gouvernementaux comprendront que cette pétition est une belle opportunité d'en apprendre plus sur notre histoire partagée. Il faut se souvenir qu'on était là aussi quand vous avez nommé ces endroits avec ce mot dégueulasse et on n'était pas d'accord dans le temps non plus mais personne ne nous a demandé notre point de vue sur la question jusqu'à maintenant. Il a même fallu qu'une personne noire soulève la question pour que vous la vous posiez!
C'est assez en 2015 de défendre le racisme au Québec. Il y a de meilleurs moyens de "rendre honneur" ou "célébrer notre héritage" que d'utiliser un terme que plusieures personnes considèrent hyper blessant et inapproprié.

I don't know if it is on the official list, but there is also an eddy (Contre-couorant) on the Rivière Rouge which we called the Black Man's Eddy though were told was actually the Nigger Eddy when I was a rafting guide. Change is needed.

Indeed, that must follow. The first step, however, must be a willingness from the provincial commission and government to change the names, which it has insisted it has received no public pressure to do so.

Why not use your resources to consult with Quebec's black community and collaborate together on names that honour and respect people of colour in Quebec?
