I find it hard to believe that this is a debate. The n- word is pejorative, offensive, and insulting. There must be hundreds of other more appropriate and informative place names that could be used to better reflect and honour historical events.

As a person of color, I'm offended that these are officials and we need a petition to remove the old signs... Can we not count on the people we but in charge to realize that it's emoraly wrong for the use of the word.... Remember everyone there are children watching!...

Change the name and at the same time honour the Indigenous history in Quebec.

I can't imagine why, in 2015, this actually needs a petition.

This is inappropriate. It's a shame no one has thought of changing it before.

Once upon a time it was deemed as acceptable language. Times have changed and it no longer is. Kind of like that Confederate flag waving high a city hall in N.C.

There's no excuse that this offensive term to describe Black people should be used anywhere.

This is disgusting! Give new names to these sites and a generation will learn this offensive term is not acceptable in place names or in any other reference.

Should the government refuse to do the right thing here, I want it on record that this decision does not reflect the fervent wishes of all Québec's citizens. The least a people can expect is that the rest of society uses the epithets or nomenclatures that they consider worthy. Conversely, racist and colonialist terms should be consigned to the proverbial dustbin of history. Bravo to the instigator of this petition. Now, let's stop using debasing terms, such as " sauvage" for Native Canadians.

to paraphrase a black poet --as soon as I knew better, I did better. It's never too late to show respect to the living and especially to the dead.

The term is terribly offensive and racist, and in fact was understood to be offensive as early as the 1820s (if not earlier).

I cannot believe that there would be any hesitation in changing the names of these places.
