I never even paid attention to the monument on our court square. Thank you for educating me on its origin!

Shelby is working so hard to encourage tourism. Why would we want to celebrate racism in the City of Pleasant Living?

I share the same family tree as Thomas Dixon and I’m proud, not of his views, but of how my views and my families views have progressed. We will never change history but we, as a people, can. It’s way past time for this statue to be removed from public land.

Why celebrate hatred?

This statue represents slavery, bondage and supremacy. I am a native and this history read was a first. It is shameful that you would hide the history behind a statue that you rally around. Give the youth the absolute truth and let them decide.

Please let todays youth shine with pride, moving forward into a better world that judges individuals on their character rather rather than the color of their skin. Let us acknowledge the disgrace in which Cleveland County was born and right that which is inherrantly wrong in our society.

Maybe state tourism should be boycotted until removed

From a fellow Cleveland County native, thank you for this! It should have never been raised and it’s time it comes down.
