Take it down & rename the road. Better late than never, Shelby. Love One Another. Black Lives Matter.

I grew up in Shelby but hadn’t ever realized what this monument was for until recently. I noticed it when I was in town for for an event on the square. I was taken aback that this confederate statue was still there in 2020. I wholeheartedly agree that it should be moved to a different location and not displayed in the middle of the town.

It is history, our history. Leave it alone.

Yes, time for change. Who has the power to make this decision. I would think the county commissioners. We should show up at the next commissioners meeting and respectfully make this request Also, vote for those who will make changes. Rather than just signing the petition, take action!

It is time to take the confederate statue down, and to rename Dixon Boulevard to something better.

The same place that statue stands is the place they used to hang my people — BLACK PEOPLE. It’s long overdue for that statue to come down!

Let’s use these opportunities for positive change. A new street name celebrating someone who made a positive impact in Shelby, or more generally, NC. As for the monument, maybe a soldier isn’t needed. How about a wartime nurse statue?
