Banning residents from pursuing higher education not only forecloses their potential to become philosophically wise (a global good), but also limits the development of competencies (a local resource). This is such incredibly short-sighted policy, and it is also making Georgia no friends among the good, who are frankly already appalled that integrated proms in the state count as a novelty.

The state is impoverishing itself in the long run by denying quality education to to many of those living there. From a purely self-serving perspective, the better educated people are, the better jobs they have, the more money they earn, the more taxes they pay. I ask that the state and schools of higher education of Georgia take into consideration this petition. Many students in the state of Georgia and other States suffer from the hardships we face as undocumented students. Being denied higher education not only demonstrates the rebirth of segregation in the state of Georgia but also demonstrates the inequality as human beings. We all have the right to an education regardless of our color, race and gender. We should honor the great Martin Luther King Jr.'s dream which he paid for with his death.

As a professor in the University System of Georgia, I have the opportunity yo teach first generation college students. I find them to be engaged students who value the opportunity for education, often working and caring for a family during their studies. I cannot fathom why the State of Georgia would ban an entire group of students the opportunity to acquire the education that it so highly values.

Banning residents from pursuing higher education not only forecloses their potential to become philosophically wise (a global good), but also limits the development of competencies (a local resource). This is such incredibly short-sighted policy, and it is also making Georgia no friends among the good, who are frankly already appalled that integrated proms in the state count as a novelty.
The state is impoverishing itself in the long run by denying quality education to to many of those living there. From a purely self-serving perspective, the better educated people are, the better jobs they have, the more money they earn, the more taxes they pay. And who is to say whether one of these potential students, given access to an excellent education, might go on to find a cure for cancer or a vaccine for ebola or write the great American novel?
This kind of discrimination must stop!
