I am a former Islander who was the victim of Domestic Violence in 2007. I have unpleasant memories of my dealings with the entire San Juan Sherriff's office, Officer Menjivar in particular. As I was at the courthouse filling out a domestic violence protection order, the man named in the order arrived at the courthouse and began to harass, intimidate and physically attempt to enter my friend's vehicle that was parked in the back parking lot. I witnessed this from the clerk's office window. My children were in the vehicle at the time and I was incredibly scared, already, which was the reason for filing the order. The Clerk offered to walk me down to the Sherriff's office and we immediately saw and heard that the parking lot cameras were already capturing the incident and the officers inside the booth said they would send someone out to diffuse the situation. Officer Menijvar was the responding officer. I stayed in the lobby of the Sherriff's office, terrified for myself and my children, with no real protection (they wouldn't let me in) because the order had not yet been signed (and later was). Witness statements from my friend who was in the car with my children stated that the man was threatening to break the windows of the car, to 'retrieve' 'his' children. When Officer Menjivar responded, he did nothing, just stood by and told my friend, "well, they ARE his children..." He was also incredibly rude to me on the phone, days later, when I called the office to ask if the order had been served yet (it was improperly served and could have put me in extreme danger). I read the order to Officer Menjivar and asked why it had not been executed as stated, by law, and he basically told me that I needed to calm down and understand that this was 'their way' of executing the protection order. I will never forget his poor handling of my situation, events I've heard of since that time just creative a timeline and pattern of unprofessional comduct.

Felix Menjivar is a bully. He has intimidated the entire population of SJI. Officer Menjivar should have a court ordered psychological evaluation, and enroll in anger management. Let us prevent Felix Menjivar from causing further harm to the men, women and children of our island home..

Police officers should be PEACE officers, not aggressive, and not working against common sense by pulling over a truck with over 100 lights on it because it's taillights don't work. That is not the behavior of someone looking out for the public's safety.

A police officer who lacks common sense and self-restraint even during a minor traffic stop is a danger to the community. He should be fired before he causes a tragedy. I am a 10 yr SJC resident.

I agree that Felix Menjivar should be removed from his post as Deputy Sheriff in San Juan County. I am signing this petition in hopes that he is fired.

We try to live in peace here. I think our law enforcement officers should reflect that state of living.

our children should not be in fear of law enforcement officers... officer Felix has caused just that by his actions on Christmas Eve... it is truly sad to see our children in total fear of all police officers just because of one bad egg...

Oh boy you know this is going to hurt US! Renegade police officers are dangerous and the mindset here is pretty ignorant.I don't want to see a person shot for nothing over this guys anger and ego.Maybe some re training and relocation of service could help? All we want is fairness.Citizens who are decent and good should never have to live in fear of law enforcement bullies!

Peace officers wanted, not military officers. Being a servant of the community should be the mindset, not adversarial mindsets.

I am a San Juan County resident. To see this kind of over reaction from one in a position of authority is reprehensible. A bunch of carolers are detained for fifteen plus minutes? His statement to the press seems to justify the behavior. Maybe on the tough streets of Detroit, but on the islands? This guy does not deserve to serve the public in the San Juans.

Over the last 9 years I have heard many first hand accounts of persons in our community who have been verbally and physically intimidated by Felix Menjivar without reasonable cause! I have also personally witnessed a very disturbing abuse of power by Felix. Our community clearly now feels as though we must watch out and protect ourselves from an officer who has sworn to protect us! Felix has lost the trust of this community, and should loose our sponsorship to carry a gun and have power over us!

The simple fact that another Deputy had to restrain Felix is all anyone needs to know...Police in tense situations ALWAYS stick together and support each other...that they didn't that night speaks volumes
