It is an unfortunate day in San Juan County when so many of us are inspired to take to an online forum and voice our opposition to a public servant. But alas, the behavior in question warrants a harsh response. We are opposed to employing an officer who is unable to maintain his calm in the presence of children, on a holiday, in the middle of our biggest town, and unable to conduct a traffic stop without escalating the situation to the point where the deputy himself needed to be restrained. We rely on our officers not just to enforce the law, but to do it with dignity, respect, and conscience.
Mr. Menjivar demonstrated none of these traits on Christmas eve and has a history of conducting himself unprofessionally as an officer of the San Juan County Police Department.
It's time for him to move on.

Islanders don't want to be living in a police state... Local police should be working for the citizens not against them... just heard a story from one of my friends who is suffering financially right now...he was pulled over by Felix the other day for supposedly not fully stopping at a stop sign... My friend who lives in town was making a quick run to the store and forgot to grab his wallet before leaving... So he didn't have his license or insurance card on him... Felix proceeded to give him an 800 dollar ticket, with no warning... this event along with many others, sends me the message that this guy has no interest in integrating into our community...

Yes, someone I know has been harassed, and I've heard of excessive use of force, him being over aggressive and intimidating. This has clearly been ongoing for a number of years.

Its time for Felix to go. There have way to many incidents surrounding his service and with our community, that's not acceptable. The Christmas eve spectacle is the last straw.

I called the sherrif department to let them know that FM was pointing a traffic gun at on coming traffic outside the middle and elementary schools, like he was shooting a gun over his forearm. It was so threatening, that I automaticlly flinched when I saw him pointing it at me. Over the top.

The actions taken on Christmas Eve could be classified as terrorism. Officer Menjivar should be held responsible for his abuse of power. Police officers are peace keepers, not tyrants. This is my opinion, not libel.

I believe that we as islanders have no problem with a police officer upholding the law. What we do object to is the excessive force, lack of professionalism and uncouth behavior which officer Menjivar has repetitively used in varying circumstances on our island. I do not feel safe with officer Menjivar on patrol due to his actions and want him removed from the force.I was taught at a young age that it is one's duty to stand up to a bully in ANY form they take, and if that makes me a "Good Ol' Boy", than so be it.

I have yet to see him benefit our community in any way.. he makes me feel unsafe and unprotected. I remember in seventh grade he arrested my friends mother and took her away and refused to answer any of my friends questions.. she was 13 years old. We were left at the house to fend for ourselves, scared and alone. As a parent himself you would think he would understand but he didn't help us at all. He makes me feel like I'm doing something wrong when I am not.. he's sarcastic and rude and will arrest you with a big smile on his face. This community doesnt deserve that.. remove Felix.

Felix is not only intimidating but he is rude as well. He doesnt make me feel safe in any way. I don't feel like I could go to him if I had a problem and that's not right. He takes his authority to a whole new level and its unfair to our community.

20 year SJC resident. I like how the other deputy offered to escort the christmas carolers the rest of thier way... I bet Felix is wishing he was as respectful. Its like opening the door for someone else. This is your chance to show humanity.... you proved yourself here.... and now we want you gone!~! Dangerous guy, I would not consider him able to continue as a Public Servant. Please consider this petition, and Fire him.
