Hello from Cheshire CT. We too have had Summit implemented in our town this year. I have read through your petition and comments. I especially liked the ones from the students; they cut right to the point. If we talked I am sure we would have similar stories to tell.

I really don't like this learning platform, its confusing, articles don't work, and you are paying the teacher to sit and watch you do stuff. They don't even teach you anything.

This is completely ridiculous, they need to go back to their original way of teaching.

This program almost extinguished my daughters love of math and possible pursuit of an advanced degree in architecture. I feel that it was introduced in a way that many things are introduced in politics .. underinformed and no proof in the pudding. Now that this has been more or less forced onto our families for a year, let's see the proof that it worked for EVERYONE. If the program only worked for a handful of students, why not just make it an option versus a program we HAVE to do. I have discussed this program with many educators in other communities, college students that will be graduating and becoming teachers and other residents and they all are concerned with the benefits for our students and future roles of our teachers. Trying to be positive but struggling.

The program is making kids not like school more than they did before and is going to make them ether crash and burn or go above and beyond just based on the first 3 weeks of the school year. Unlike the old way were you could go bad in the beginning and get better by the end.

For something that is supposed to be personalized, it's not! I'm in college and had a hard time following along with my son. This is way too advanced for some kids. If everyone could handle it, it'd be a different thing. So this actually puts kids behind and stresses them out. They don't need to be stressed during school and worried about this. They should be able to go to class, so their work, and go home and feel comfortable with what they've learned. No way is this appropriate for high school students (my son used this in 8th grade for MATH). Horrible!

Bring back the personal touch and human connection with our schools now! The old way is not necessarily a bad way. Progress with common sense is desired by us all.

The idea of Summit is to be on the computer for just a small % of the school day but the 6th graders I was tutoring were on the computer 3 full days a week working at their own pace and trying not to get distracted by the internet at their fingertips all day. The following link shows you what the ideal amount of time is to be on the computer but Fairview is not implementing it this way. http://www.summitps.org/student-day?day=3

In 2017 I was a volunteer tutor for 6th grade ESL students and it was the first I had heard of and seen Summit. Seeing it in action and the struggles of the students had me very concerned. With two young kids, we ultimately made the decision to leave the city not only because of Summit, but because of what I feel is the districts inappropriate use of technology as young as first grade (kids post videos of themselves to YouTube and I was told we cannot opt out of that. Kids are also using Google as a research tool in 1st grade with no filters because of Freedom of Information Act). As a life-long resident of the city, it was a really hard decision for me to leave as I had a great education here. But after meeting with the Tech Director for Gillis and they way he dismissed my concerns made me feel like they do not have my child's best interest at heart. I am hopeful that the parents with kids in the district can make a change.

We listened to the district and passed your levy. Now listen to the parents and get rid of this program.
