Remove The Emancipation Memorial/Freedman Statue

This statue is reprehensible. The portrayal of a freed slave in the statue is so extremely condescending, insulting and dehumanizing that it is cruel. I think if Abraham Lincoln was alive he would be disgusted too. And the work was not over, it was just beginning. He is being portrayed like some pretentious savior. And is petting the head of a man crouched down like some groveling pathetic dog. Lincoln was not a god to be worshiped on one knees. And slaves were not some pathetic neanderthal creatures. They were human beings, men, women and children. This portrayal of a freed man that had been enslaved is completely disrespectful. Please, this does not belong in our society. It portrays the continued dehumanizing of this supposedly freed man.

Even Lincoln would not like this statue. He said to bow only to God.

Do the right thing

I work in the area and have often felt this image felt out of touch with contemporary society. I never had the courage or fortitude to express my opinion productively. Good for this young person for doing so.

Take it down or make it so they're shaking hands or otherwise acting as peers. Or in light of the recent nonsense in Central Park- ditch Lincoln and add a pair of binoculars and a bluejay and rename it "In Celebration of Birding"

They want to keep us beneath them because they are too scared to look us eye to eye!

Please remove this statue as it does not celebrate emancipation so much as highlight the trauma of black Americans.

This statue of Abe Lincoln literally petting a black man crawling on his knees is DESPICABLE. I’ve lived in Boston my whole life & have never seen this statue until now. This needs to be torn down immediately!!
