Time to remove the statue. If you want to house it in a museum with proper context and written commentary by black scholars, fine. But the statue in its current position is inappropriate. Remove it and commission a black artist to create a monument that properly honors emancipation.

This statue would be one thing in a museum with a lot of back story and context. Up on a pedestal in a park for any kids to walk by and get the wrong idea? No thank you. We can do better
