I had lived in Boston for 35 years before coming across this 5 years ago. I was embarrassed & repelled. Would much prefer a statue of Frederick Douglass to replace it.

Yes this statue should go and be replaced by one with a very different and truthful message of our history. This is a patronizing, insulting depiction of the white President Lincoln, "liberating" a black slave, with all the attending implications of power and supplication. In reality, it was the white colonizers who decided to enslave and reaped financial benefit for centuries at the expense of thousands of lives. Perpetrators, not liberators. So I agree, the statue is offensive and misrepresents the historical foundations of this country and the role white people played and continue to play ruling over the lives of Black people, even now.

People should read the history of the Civi War to learn that Lincoln fought to STOP slavery. The southern Democrats fought to KEEP slavery. READ and LEARN.
