This statue is a disservice to Emancipation. The imagery is confusing and as Troy correctly states, harmful to children. There has to be a better way to memorialize this events.

I agree with you BECAUSE the slave is kneeling and it is extremely uncomfortable and just nasty. Young black children and honestly young white children as well SHOULD NOT looking at this.

Imagine if your moment of "freedom" still depicted you as being lorded over by your oppressor who now tries to claim they are your savior. This is a truly gross representation of the struggles of slavery and the meaning of emancipation and needs to be changed.
