That’s not true at all. Read about this statute. Read my other comment. Taking down this statute is a big disagree to African Americans ancestors who funded and wanted thus statute.

Every American, and especially every black American, should be proud that the sublime and inspiring monument in Lincoln's Memorial was paid for entirely by funds donated by African-Americans. Charlotte Scott, a slave loved President Lincoln and used her $5 to start a fund to honor President Lincoln. This is a BIG dishonor to everyone! Charlotte Scott was present at the unveiling and her picture was taken and sold to spectators. Her name was on the breath of every citizen of the United States. She simply wanted to express what every person of color felt. President Lincoln lifted the yoke of slavery from every black man, woman and child in the United States and made them citizens.

There are so many good messages we could use this space to spread. At the very least we need to remove this statue and get rid of the terrible messages it sends. We can and should do better.

It needs to go! For years it has contributed to the racism of Boston and the country. It has presented black people as lowly and beneath. It was never a statement of freedom but of bondage.

Take this uncomfortable looking monument that sends the wrong message and put up Crispus in its place.
