The statue upholds a White Savior narrative. It should be replaced with a statue of a Black person who escaped and resisted slavery, like Harriet Tubman or Frederick Douglass.

they should’ve listened to Frederick Douglass in 1876 when he “...was reported to have criticized the slave’s position on his knees”. - via lostnewengland.com - City of Boston needs to tear this down asap!!

I hope the city makes the right move and removes/replaces this statue, otherwise Lincoln may meet an end like Christopher Columbus in the Commons. For a statue that celebrates the “end” of racism, it’s remarkably racist in its portrayal of lasting inequality.

The statue is more a comment from the attitudes of the time it was created. It should be removed, and recreated to show actual emancipation. Not beholden subjugation. Public art speaks to the living of the values we uphold or aspire to - as we know better, we uplevel our art. Art with Historical points of view should be visible in chosen place to examine and reflect Upon. public art needs to elevate us And offer possibilities -even as we examine the Harsh past. It should be removed for perpetuating oppressive mindsets.
