I'm immensely proud of MA, but things like this tarnish that. I want my home state and city to really be the shining example for the rest of the country. But we can't get there with stuff like this still prevalent

I was a student at UMass-Boston in early 70's and spent a lot of time in the area. The statue for me was a reminder of Boston's arrogance and white entitlement attitudes. I couldn't look at it.

Please remove this statue! The imagery is disturbing. And if you don't think symbols have power, why do you think Trump is so upset about a half-empty arena in Tulsa, Oklahoma? Sadly, this statue is absolutely accurate. It reflects what Lincoln truly felt. While he abolished slavery, he never thought blacks should be equal to whites. So, the image depicted here is a slap in the face to blacks. And if you think symbols don't matter, put yourself in Lincoln's shoes. Do you think he would have been okay with someone creating a statute of him kneeling under the hand of another man? Even under the hand of the another white man? He would have torn the statue down himself.

Who are you to judge our ancestors and the decisions they made after they were emancipated? The design of this statue was approved by our ancestors and paid for by them. You should be more indignant that Boston never erected a statue for Crispus Attucks. I have never visited your city but every fellow African American I know who has attended college in Boston since post-World War 2 until the present describe it the same way -- Birmingham, Massachusetts. Friends who grew up in the South up through the Civil Rights period and beyond consider Boston the most racist city in the country.

As Deputy Commissioner of Boston's Arts agency in 1988 I inquired repeatedly about having this statue taken down and I was laughed at for my revulsion to it. It's long past time for that demeaning statue to go. Thank you Mr. Tory Bullock!
