Remove Spera from Education

He's corrupt

I actually decided to homeschool my child after her experience with Dr Spera and his overly obvious racism. Had a student threaten to daughter attacked by her latin king family members and Spera sided with the bully and her family. He was aware of threats and bullying and defended the girl and her family since her father was no longer considered an active gang member. We withdrew immediately after. I hate he has the opportunity to ruin the lives of more students.

Glad he is gone.

I am signing for the simple fact that all of these people can't be wrong. Thanks to the article in the Day, I am standing by the students and staff. In 2008 CT was #3 in education, we are now #12. People like this are why. This guy needs to be at a job anywhere that has nothing to do with anyone else. Like drive an 18 wheeler and be by yourself. Human interaction for this man is not something he should slightly do. I am disgusted. With two kids in HS and one with a disability. I would be horrified if I had to deal with this.

I have seen this at the school. The narcissism, the singling out, the favoritism of students. He has been nothing but a negative influence on my daughter after she was convinced to attend the school her Freshman year. She has been so much happier there since he left.

LEARN seems to have a history of covering for bad principals including the one at TRCC Middle College.

When an administrator, especially one that has as much contact with developing youth as Spera has, perpetuates derision regarding student's future post-secondary options, they ought not to be working with youth. Spera was VERY openly hostile toward students who desired to go to community college, attend a job training program or to go straight into the workforce. I have multiple reasons for signing this petition and rarely would feel that public opinion should hold such power over a person's career. That said, I feel it important to sign because Spera has ignored concerns of students, families and teachers and LEARN has as well. I feel it is my responsibility to add my voice to the others because of how he has endangered the mental and emotional health of the very students that he should have been protecting. In 2013 I called a meeting with Spera- as the members of the first graduating class were embarking on what should have been an exciting time of their lives - the exploration of post- secondary options. As a teacher myself, a parent of a 2014 graduate and as one who once was a college and career counselor, I was appalled to know that those 23 students were being raked over the coals if their college (or not) choices did not meet with his approval. My son had, even at 15, a clear understanding of Spera's dark character and also the internal strengths to brush off Spera's opinions and not let it "get to him". I was not so concerned for him being affected by Spera, but for the other kids who may not yet have grown into understanding that their self worth was NOT dependent upon one foolish man. Rather, I called a meeting with Spera in an effort to support those students who didn't yet know that his opinion doesn't matter - that regardless of what they chose for post-secondary options, whether it be an ivy league university, state school, work, military or community college, - they should feel GREAT about themselves when they graduated high school (with rigor!) a

The pure amount of bull that this man has made many endure is incredible, he pulls under performing students in twice weekly to berate them, he personally told me i was not even going to get into Three Rivers, a community college, and he called one of my friends "the schools biggest worry" he is an absolute disgrace as a teacher, multiple times he has lied to my parents about petty things, and has made changes to my schedule without my consent or knowledge even when my parents asked to have time to decide about it. I graduate this year, and I am so happy the freshman onward wont have to deal with his controlling bullying behavior. P.S. I got into a way better college than three rivers which is a final middle finger to Spera

Get this abusive POS out of the school setting permanently.

Students were yelled at, pressured, and stressed in class by MSMHS teachers because of the numerous times Spera would pull our teachers out in the middle of class and humiliate and yell at them over something so small. Something so small that could have been talked about at the end of class, at a meeting, at anything else other than in the middle of the hall outside the classroom door. I've watched multiple teachers cry and put stress on students because Spera puts stress on them. Like Spera used to say everything is a "cause and effect". Spera caused the teachers and students to be a nervous wreck.

140ish students have come forward to sign the petition. This represents 42% of the students who have graduated from MSMHS. That you for pointing that out.

I was very sad for my nephew under the tyranny of this man. I believe his meanness created great stress for my nephew. And when his father went to speak to this principal he was very unreasonable and made unmerited threats of calling the college my nephew was accepted to. He was a very vindictive man. We hope that the adults influencing our young people in high school would be understanding, reasonable and have discernment. This bully should not be allowed to ruin anymore young people’s lives.

Persons in his position are supposed lead by showing positive examples Shame on him

I feel like I dodged a bullet choosing not to attend MSMHS but feel bad for those that weren’t a “favorite.” Education is no place for people like Dr. Spera

He needs to be removed

Spera needs to be removed from public education and working with children!

Spera totally derailed my sons education by continually singling him out, berating him, making disparaging and condescending comments and just making him not feel accepted at the school. Because of a social media mishap, instead of calling me and handling it with a parent, Spera chose instead, to start mass hysteria by calling the Groton City police and notifying all the school families of a threat to the school. I had to plead with this tyrant to not have State Police Troop K get him from the field in Colchester where he was playing. Instead, I was given the option to go get him myself and bring him back to the school to be interrogated. In an effort to force my son out of the school, Spera invited my son into his office with 8 other administrators and teachers (unbeknownst to me) to “meet” with him. When it’s 9 adults against 1 sixteen year old, it’s an interrogation. The motivation was to get him to leave the school. Spera was successful. Kudos Nick! To you 8 other school administrators and teachers, you should be ashamed of yourselves for allowing yourselves to follow him. You all must have felt really good about yourselves for ganging up on a young kid and making him feel like absolute crap. Good job. Think for yourselves next time. What followed, was a disaster, as my son was many units behind in math and science upon transferring back to his hometown school. The magnet school gives students until the end of the quarter to pass in homework and also to retake tests until the student gets the grade they are satisfied with. Not sure how this prepares a student for college or life. Good luck with your future endeavors Nick.
