WHAT WE KNOW:
1. By removing archaic legislation we can reduce traffic congestion, GHG emissions, the length of wait times and make taxis more competitive with ride hailing on a level playing field
2. The Taxi industry matters to our economy.
3. The Ridesharing industry is an important addition to our economy.
4. However, the red tape for the taxi industry must be removed so that taxis can cross city boundaries and pick up and drop off passengers wherever they need to.
THE CHALLENGE
1. Ridesharing companies have been given large operating areas by the Passenger Transportation Board in British Columbia. For example, Region 1 encompasses an area from Whistler to Hope and includes Squamish-Lillooet, Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley Regional Districts.
2. Local taxi companies were promised a fair and level playing field to compete with the ridesharing industry. This has not happened.
3. Currently, archaic government red tape forces taxis to drive back empty (deadhead) after dropping off passengers in neighbouring municipalities. Deadheading leads to inefficient use of taxi fleets, increased congestion, GHG emissions, higher costs, longer wait times for passengers and lower-income for drivers.
CALL TO ACTION AND WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE:
Call on BC Transportation Minister, Hon. Claire Trevena to:
Remove archaic taxi boundaries and allow the 2,500 taxis in Metro Vancouver to pick-up and drop-off anywhere in the Lower Mainland to serve the public better.
Local taxis want to compete with ride-hailing companies, but on a level playing field, without any boundaries. This will be true economic action that will improve customer service.

Multimillion companies like UBER has paid the government under the table so that there is no level playing field coz they now if cab companies are given the same benefits then there prices will be even lower then these ride hailing companies
Government need to intervene in Pessenger Transportation Board decision and ask them to remove boundaries for all lower mainland Taxi companies so that Taxi drivers will be serving customers rather than dead heading from one city to another city wasting time and money and polluting our beautiful place

We need the RedTape removed from the Taxi Industry, all taxis MUST be able to cross any boundaries to pick up or drop off customers. I support taxis, and we as taxi business had to invest so much money, just to end up broke, confused about why people, all of a sudden believe we are a dying industry, well now we are, because cities all over Canada have put thousands of reliable, curtious, fare, clean, hard working, people who were happy to not have a wage, because we made more money in one 12 hour shift than most people. I'm tired of hearing, taxi's are unsafe, NO WE ARE NOT!! We drive worn out taxi's WE ACTUALLY HAVE STANDARD WITHIN OUR COMPANIES!!! ( THERE IS BAD APPLES IN EVERY BUSINESS!!! our city facilitators didn't do their homework, they knew nothing about our business, they knew nothing about how people call 2 or 3 or every rideshare in the town they are in... we were Not the problem,,, the problem still happens now ,,,PEOPLE CALLING ALL THOSE TAXIS FOR ONE PERSON, AND TAKING THE ONE THAT SHOWS UP FIRST,,, TRY THAT THE NEXT TIME YOU ORDER A PIZZA, CALL PIZZA 73, BOSTON PIZZA, CEASARS PIZZA,,,,,!,,,,,,,!!!!!!????? AND WHICH EVER PIZZA GETS TO YOUR HOUSE FIRST,,, GETS PAID!!!!! LETS SEE HOW MANY TIMES THEY WILL LET YOU GET AWAY WITH THAT????? I have heard Uber drivers tell me that they are working Uber at night while working as truck drivers in the morning. Are they not over their driving hours? Is it safe to allow someone to work 8 hours driving a truck and another 8 driving an Uber at night on the weeked?
