Remove Ford GoBike Stations in front of People's Homes!

I hate these things as it is promoted solely for profit of major corporations and not for the actual sharing of bikes or benefitting any local comapny

I live on this street and can confirm that GoBike did a bait and switch on the neighborhood. They said they were not installing and people stopped organizing against it. The next information we received were the signs announcing no parking in that area for the day of installation.

How can they be using public money and public streets for a project that favors just a few: those who are physically able to ride bicycles and who do not need to carry much. (A parent with 2 kids, groceries; a teacher--any half serious teacher has a car loaded past the windowsils with supplies.) I have scanned all the stations I have seen and do not see any adaptive bikes, any variation in size or configuration. Further, until the City is able to control cyclists who pose a danger to themselves and others, we should be looking at reducing the number of potential accidents, not increasing them. Since I cannot physically ride a standard bike (medical explanations ad. naus. if you even hint at an interest) there is a lot about folks on bikes I simply don't get. Surrounded by a couple of tons of steel, I need safety gear but someone open to the elements on 2 wheels doesn't even need a helmet? If it's inconvenient for a cyclist to make a full stop and obey traffic regulations, why can't I just roll through "stops" and red lights if it seems like I might be able to force others out of my way? Sorry for the rant, and I'm sure you, dear reader, are a conscious, courteous and safe cyclist. But there are so many who are not and who set up others to be the guardians of their safety.

A commercial enterprise does not belong in an area zoned residential. Most egregious is the lack of notification of the process by the City of Oakland to those afflicted, especially when there are appropriate alternatives within a few blocks. There had to have been some sort of permitting for this business; normally, notices must be posted and public comment allowed. This bike station should be removed, and the whole placement process must be re-evaluated and done with proper due process.

I also live on Shafter, one block south of the GoBike Station. I'm certain there is a very close alternative to this location that will meet the needs of bike riders and not negatively impact the folks who live here who need to park their cars after work, etc.

This privately-owned project on public property was done without proper notice as is required with other city-sponsored projects in parks, public works, etc. The whole project should be re-noticed in an open and fair way.

The installation of Ford bikes at Cavour and Shafter is so wrong and should be removed, especially considering lack of consult with neighbors/victims.

These things should not be placed in front of residential properties.

This is not a business area. If people can’t open a business in this area due to regulations, then this bike business must obey the City regulations as well. What is the difference? What kind of back room deal is going on between this corporation and the City?

Classic! Oakland joins other cities in making bikes more available if not affordable, but it is screwed up...plenty of bikes in some commercial areas, very inappropriate placement in residential areas and no availability in many obvious areas...please pay attention to this commercial venture, as they are not getting it right!

Not the way to do business. Very unethical. Contract should be rescinded. Promises by Motivate were broken. Break the contract.

I don't understand how general citywide discussions pass as communication to owners/renters of nearby properties as some on Nextdoor have asserted.

It's not right to have these in residential neighborhoods. In commercial areas (such as mine) it's OK.

Bikes yes. No homeowner input: corruption.

Please put it on 51st and not on a residential street. It makes way more sense!

Timely notification and careful placement are musts. If businesses can decline, residents need to be able to do so as well

Commercial businesses do not have the right to the space in front of personal residences.
