Removal of Paul Tamburrino as CAA VP

His history of divisiveness is legendary. It is obvious that the members who he was hired to represent are not being represented. '74

Paul Tamburrino is very passionate about The Citadel, but for anyone who doesn't know him, he is even more passionate about himself. Now that he's been elected to a position within the CAA, he feels he has the authority to run his agenda down your throat. He'll spend any amount of time necessary to marginalize you or your opinion. The longer he 'serves' in this position, the more he will attempt to impose his agenda. He needs to be vacated immediately, if not only for his unprofessionalism to date, but for the liability he will become.

Paul, I supported your candidacy and voted for you. As such, I am heart broken that you have forgotten that Summerall Chapel is a place of "remembrance." The hollowed words over the entrance of the Chapel reminds all who enter to "Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth" - a quote from Ecclesiastes 12:1. Within the Chapel also flys a flag representing the Christian faith. That banner reminds us that sinful mankind murdered the only perfect man to walk the face of the Earth. Both it and the Union Jack SHOULD offend us... because they are both symbols of events that should never be repeated. Removing the flag will not remove the stain of sin they represent; it will only diminish the fact that good people died for what they so believed that they were will to lay down their life. Bottom line, Charleston is morning right now. This was not the time to resurrect this issue and add additional and unnecessary stress upon our beloved Alma mater.

The Confederate Flag has been appropriated by the most heinous and racist among us. It was rallied behind and presented as a symbol by a mass murderer who slaughtered peaceful African Americans after they invited him in to Bible study in the sanctuary of their church. Many may point to heritage and tradition but for far too many, good and bad citizens, the Confedrate Flag is a symbol of subjugation and oppression. Talk is cheap. Send a clear and concrete message to the racists and hooligans who have co-opted the Confederate Flag they'll find no succor or sanctuary at the Citadel. No cover or false sheen of legitimacy to their barbarous ways. Take a stand. Tell the merchants of hate and racism you uncategorically reject them. I urge you. Take down the flag!

Let me remind you, you are completely out of touch. Let me guess? White?

Just would like to remind you that the flag is part of the history of this school. It stands for nothing more than tradition, heritage, and the schools southern roots. It has nothing to do with prejudice or racism. Star of the West, January 9th, 1861, gentlemen. That will be all.

While I appreciate the historical significance of the Confederate Naval Jack to the Citadel, its alumni and others in South, I also understand that it is extremely upsetting to some people. Unfortunately, Mr. Tamburrino has, once again, shown gross poor judgment in his handling of an issue. Instead of waiting and dealing with it in a rational manner among alumni, he has gone public to push his personal agenda. In doing so he has brought further unnecessary attention and scorn upon The Citadel. It is with sadness that I am signing this petition, but based upon this incident and others, I feel that it is time for Mr. Tamburrino to resign his position in the CAA.

I agree with many of the comments. Mr. Tamburrino chose possibly the worst time ever to bring up the flag issue. Agreeing or disagreeing with the issue has nothing to do with my decision to sign this petition. This has divided the alumni and caused negative attention on our school.

Thank you Paul, for having the courage to speak out for what is right, while in the company of those who it seems, are experiencing great difficulty in doing the right thing. This is often hard for those who sincerely don't believe in equality. As this seems to be the case for a few of your former classmates...it must also be noted, it would be inappropriate to describe them as your "peers." Good work Paul. You have my thanks, and the appreciation of many.
