Petition for the Removal of Michele Hovey from the Iroquois School Board

Ms. Hovey, Please wipe your nose and dry your eyes. You are a sad example of a BOE member. Do all of the Iroquois district and do the right thing RESIGN!!!!!!

She’s accountable to her customer. Her customer is the Children and parents. Her comments were unnecessary. By the way, her political affiliation is irrelevant. If this is what is “allowed” during a Board Discussion, as a parent, I have to ask, why? It has nothing to do with the goals of the district or getting kids back in school. You clearly have a personal connection here and that’s fine, you can support what you believe is in the best interest of our kids. I firmly believe that her comments were unnecessary at a time when we need these folks working to figure out how to get our kids back full time.

She needs to go.

Accountable for what? Despite what you 'demand,' the BOE meetings follow an AGENDA. Her statement was part of the 'Board Discussion.' This is being blown out of proportion, no one even KNOWS her political affiliation!

Political results have NOTHING to do with the student’s education

Holding those in power accountable is not bullying. The parents of this district need every single minute spent on getting our children back in school full-time. There is no need for her to rally others with her political emotions, those can be shared over coffee with friends. We have a lot of work to do to get our kids caught up and as a tax payer I demand the time spent be on our children. Period.

The school board should have no place for political stances. This board is for our children and community and that’s it.

This was not the platform to discuss political views whether 2 or 20 minutes ... This was not part of the agenda ... I don’t believe it was open forum ... Schools have so many other items of priority for the best interest of our children during this unprecedented time.. We should be using every minute of the meetings for those items.

Seeing this board member voice her opinion during a session that only happens so often is really unnecessary. These sessions are meant to accomplish the goals of the district, let’s keep the goals in mind rather than getting off topic on controversial topics. Seeing this board member become emotional over the election is a disgrace to our children. If she would have gotten emotional over the effect of the pandemic on our children, I’m sure she would have gotten a whole lot more support. Seeing our children being denied their traditional education and the social/emotional toll it’s taking on our children - NOTHING is more important than that right now. It needs to be priority #1 and this board member seems to be short sighted on what her priorities are and her ability to put our kids first is questionable. Other districts are working every possible solution to get children back full time-and their boards are making it critical. Iroquois needs to do the same-we parents will demand it.

Bullying? Once again, this is an elected official. This is a person who sought this position. Commenting and wanting to hold her responsible for her actions isnt “bullying”. And while I’m at it, how is her political statement out of context? It shouldn’t have been there in the first place.

Agreed that children in schools should not be subjected to teachers politics beliefs! Disappointed in the board and their lack of focus on what matters for our children!!

Shameful that you used this platform to voice your political views. Your job is to take care of school matters.

Ms. Hovey's 'rant' was actually a heartfelt statement read during the 'Board Discussion and News Worth Sharing' agenda item, stressing the importance of honoring ALL election results, from the BOE to the President and everything in between. This petition is nothing more than harassment and character assassination and certainly sends the wrong message to our youth. If you're upset about in-school instruction, sports and activities, this is NOT the way to approach it. The only agenda being pushed here is of those signing this petition. Your questions were read, with your permission, by Mr. Scofield as part of the 'Recognition of Guests' (public comment) agenda item. There are guidelines and policies for public comment. The Board does NOT respond to Recognition of Guests and no action is taken until staff members have reported to The Board on any issue raised by the speaker (in this case, you). This is a process. According to the meeting minutes, The Board requested a copy of the written answer from the administrator responding to your questions and Mr. Scofield stated that he has had discussions with your husband and that you wanted the Board to be aware of the questions you raised. If you have yet to receive a 'real' answer, perhaps you should follow the the Public Complaint ICSD Policy#3230 process.

Impeach her. No but seriously, this is so tiresome. Keep your politics out of school and stop the use of CNN10 in the middle school classrooms.

Regardless of your political affiliation, our children have not been in school full time for nearly one year. I would think most parents on both sides would have to agree that those that hold seats on a School Board should not be voicing their political opinion nor going on a nearly five minute political rant rather than discussing the students and schools issues at hand. With all due respect Ms. Valvo, it was a four and a half minute rant questioning the integrity of all elected officials from school board member to president if they don’t share the same political view as Ms. Hovey. That in itself is over the line. I was actually one of only eleven that viewed this meeting in its entirety live that evening. I strongly encourage as many parents as possible to view this meeting in its entirely as you have recommended and I can assure you that most parents will be even more outraged than they were after viewing this small segment. I think most will be disappointed to see that there was not one idea/thought/discussion or even mention of a plan to get these kids back in school. This video can be found in its entirety on the Iroquois website from the 1/13 meeting. While you are viewing the video, please watch closely at the 1:02 minute mark as I was the only person that sent in three questions regarding the actual school and students. There was a one second pause after my three questions were read, not one member answered my questions and they moved on to the next subject. After following up the next day with all seven members, I have yet to receive a real answer from any of the board members and it’s been since 1/14. I think after watching the entire meeting and seeing that the one and only set of questions regarding the actual school and students was completely ignored, it would be very hard to defend the poor use of time on Ms. Hovey’s part to voice her political opinion. What does her opinion on the election have to do with the Iroquois school board. Apparently she does not believe in a difference of opinion. Of course it was fine for 4 years to hear that Donald Trump did not legitimately win the presidency. Thank God all our children when to private school!!!
