Removal of Jada and Luis Diaz from ConCarolinas Committee

I hope to see the con return to what it was. Jada and Luis handling of controversy has been disingenuous and petty. Carrying a loaded weapon against their own policy and hotel rules was arrogant and dangerous.

We went for 3 years and it never seemed to grow. Had potential to be a great local con. Hopefully it will return and be bigger and better.

After attending the convention for more than ten years, I will not be going back unless Jada and Luiz leave the board.

I am extremely disappointed in the treatment of this con by both of them.

I cannot endorse this convention any longer. Yet I, too, am keeping my name as anonymous because I fear the potential gun violence and the harassment that has already occurred, as well as further potential for such violence. After the mismanagement, deceptive practices, and poor treatment of guests, I do not believe that either Jada or Luiz Diaz should be allowed to return, let alone be involved in, ConCarolinas.

I've been coming a long time. I'm probably not coming next year. This year there were some issues with communication, etc. That said, even before the political issues, this con seemed to be going in a direction I'm not interested in going--it isn't a bad direction, just one I'm not into--and so I figured even before a lot of the mess that I might not go back. There seemed to be a lot fewer folks here this year, but I might have misjudged that. So I'm not sure that new leadership would make me want to go again (though I do love the con), but right now, were nothing to change, I'd not go back next year.

I will not return under the current leadership nor any other similar leadership. I need to hear new voices from the Con Chair and respect expressed for the wishes of the fans - something I do not hear from this leadership.

The lack of informing the hotel about con security being armed was a serious breach of trust with Hilton, which could have implications for this and other conventions.

This is obviously not the ConCarolinas of the past nor anything the attendees and long time fans want, it is solely the Jada & Luis hotel party. If you want it to be otherwise it will not become such with a married couple holding veto proof power on the board and that arrangement should never have been allowed. My family will not attend while this leadership is in place. If there is a new leadership we will re-evaluate our decision based on who takes over after this regime is ended and what their vision for the convention is. There are a lot of conventions and Geek related activities to choose from are not compelled to support a convention spiraling downwards year by year. This saddens us as we have attended this convention for over 10 years and do not feel safe to sign our names to the petition for fear of online bullying and reprisal if we do so.

used to enjoy coming to this con. behavior of con chairs is unprofessional and unbecoming. defensiveness and callousness to the concerns of fans and guests does not suggest an event that is actually inclusive, welcoming, or safe. will be spending my time and money elsewhere until clear steps are taken to turn this con around.

While I appreciate all they’ve done for ConCarolinas in the past, I believe in the interests of restoring the image and former reputation of the convention, it’s best for them to step down.

Too much power in only four hands has led to ConCarolinas becoming a shadow of what it used to be. The con committee seemed to just be Jada and Luis. Suggestions were met with open hostility in some cases.

They have demonstrated an astounding lack of concern for the safety and comfort of the attendees of ConCarolinas. Regardless of politics or allegiances, they cannot be trusted with the basic well-being of their staff or attendees.

I take no pleasure in this, but I feel this is necessary to restore the con to its former glory.

Jada and Luis have made it crystal-clear who they want to attend their con and who they don't want, and what direction they want the con to go in. It's not a direction I'm interested in.

The news that the con security head has been breaking con and hotel policy by carrying a loaded weapon for the last few years alarms and saddens me. I don't feel that the current leadership is trustworthy, and will not return until they have been replaced.

I will not be returning as I feel the current Con Chair has disregarded the feelings and wishes of many guests that have attended for years, not to mention attendees, and not been forthright about many of the events leading up to this unfortunate step.

In the last several months I have witnessed via social media very unprofessional behavior via treatment of both guests and attendees. People raised concerns and they were either ignored, mocked, or unconcerned by Jada. Furthermore I have learned that Luis Diaz was carrying a concealed weapon during the last con. He admitted it, almost bragging, while also mocking a guest via social media. I have screen shots. I brought my child to this con where I felt she would be safe. Regardless of policy, when there is a stand to check weapons via costumes, it is implied no real weapons will be present. ConCarolinas has let me and several others down this past months. Due to these things, despite being an attendee for 5 years now, I will no longer attend this con, nor recommend it, unless Jada and Luis are removed as leadership.

I want to be able to enjoy this con again. Jada has made it about her. And I don't feel comfortable with armed security. It's hypocritical.
