This attempt to erase history is a sop to
Black Lives Matter and its leftist allies. Few things could be more contemptible. John Hunt Morgan was a great military leader and should be honored.

These memorials were erected by widows and mothers, members of the UDC, to honor the soldiers who died defending their land. It also honors the personal sacrifices of those soldiers who survived the War. One of these was my grandmother’s father, James Bailey Looney, who left Madison Station at the age of 15 to join Capt. Egbert Jones company when it was organized in Huntsville. He survived four years of combat and “came home to find no home.”

Americans erect monuments to our history. We are not ISIS removing monuments because a few people object. We should not be judging people from 17, 18, 19th century on 21st century standards and morals. Otherwise, 50 years from now WW2 and Vietnam memorials may be under attack.

We expect the Alabama state historical preservation laws to preserve this worthy monument to a loyal son of Alabama who sacrificed all for home and family.
He was a brillient General whose military feats were extraordinary for his time.
Why would anyone not understand that Alabamians deserve to have their own heroes from history, not be forced to have only one perspective, the federal viewpoint, presented when trying to grasp what Southerners wanted to gain through secession: Life, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness;their civil rights, under which the old constitution had violated through illegal, disproportionate taxation for over thirty years before war broke out in 1861, and continued violation of civil rights when an overbearing federal government raped, stole plundered and destroyed the South for economic reasons, not slavery.

The destruction of our history and our heritage MUST STOP NOW!!! We can now see that these agitators are trying to destroy most elements of our history. I have no problem with interpretive signage added, but please keep the monument in place. Thank you

It is a pity that the commission will bend to the will of marxist groups and out of state business interests when most of the silent majority have no issues with remembering the honored dead of the past.
