I am very concerned about being in person during this current covid surge. Covid rates are higher than ever, and vaccinated individuals are becoming infected at alarming rates. And we’ve been remote through all previous semesters when numbers were lower. Additionally, our cohort will be doing practicum in various schools across CT and NY. Many schools have just shortened the quarantine time to 5 days and stopped doing contact tracing, while cases in school are already at an all-time high. With students from our cohort being around numerous students in their practicum placements and many other individuals in their places of work, in person classes would require people who have likely had countless exposures to gather in small indoor spaces for multiple hours. It seems irresponsible and I’m extremely uncomfortable with this plan.

With the increase of transmission with the Omicron Covid-19 variant and the limitations that in person meetings will offer (masked and limited group connections), it seems that there is insufficient support to ask each student to put themselves AND their families at risk. This is especially true for the graduate student who is likely to have many additional responsibilities of families, work etc. While there seems to have been a shift in Connecticut to focus on the community rates as opposed to the individual, it would make the most sense for the shift to be gradual to reduce rates of transmission. As such, the graduate programs have been successful in providing the necessary tools to support online classes for my cohort and there has been an approval for a hybrid model for the 2022-2023 school year for the Counselor Education program, it would be step backwards to ask graduate students to assume this risk at this time. I sincerely ask, please reconsider

The infection rate in CT is almost 25%. WCSU has had us remote this entire time, even when the infection rate was as low as 2%. It does not make sense to have us go back in person right now; especially considering the fact that our cohort has been able to successfully participate in all of our classes and acquire the knowledge necessary to be successful in this field.

Given all of the unknowns in our current situation, as well as the comfort and ease of remote learning that many of us have been engaging in since the beginning of our program, I think it would be in the best of interest of us students to continue with remote learning for the spring semester.

Given the circumstances with people getting sick and the weather. I would feel more comfortable going remote for at least the first two months of the spring semester.

The email sent by President Dr. Clark suggested "learning opportunities that best support our students", and as educators (school counseling) we know, learning in a mask is hard. The operation plan presents as a deterrent in my educational experience, where my thoughts are on exposure above all. Many other distractions and challenges arise in this especially difficult time if having to be in-person.
