Rebuild a new Royal Berkshire Hospital in Wokingham Borough

The Reading and surrounding area require a state of the art new hospital. This would be an opportunity for new hospital to create that solution

Need to be somewhere near motorway and public access. The hospital as it is is overcrowded. Little parking and in some parts like the third world. Parking is important as people going to the hospital are Ill of disabled and cannot get there by public transport. Easy access from Townlands , West Berkshire Brants bridge etc

Why would you need to build a new Hospital in the middle of the Town, it makes little sense to me.

The current site is not right for major investment. Not enough land to have an efficient layout,virtually no car parking ( staff have an impossible task trying to park ) and hard to access even for ambulances

Anywhere outside Reading on the east side would be a good place to build. Wokingham, in my opinion, perfect. Good road access etc

Ideal location and will provide relief to the residents around the existing facility

We need a nice new hospital similar to Bournemouth, with all departments in one place and plenty of parking for the future. !!

Totally sensible as transport links will be built in and a bigger more suitable site can be purpose built.

We need a new state of the art hospital with adequate car parking for staff and patients which the current Royal Berks does not have. The current site should be developed as a walk in similar to Bracknell

Great decision and it can’t come soon enough.

It would be a very sensible move. No doubt Reading Buses could run a shuttle service to it. It would allow space for a large and adequate visitors car park.

Due to ongoing medical problems I have to attend RBH on a regular basis. The parking is so bad I have to take two buses taking over an hour to get there. If there was sufficient parking it would take me under 20 minutes

One of the reasons for leaving my home in Alexandra Road Reading was the congestion caused by the major capital spend and integration of RBH with Battle Hospital on the RBH historic site. It was then and remains an absurd decision and waste of taxpayer monies. It was obvious to any observer that the hospital cheek by jowl with Reading University and Reading School, all of which were expanding, could not continue to live together in such a confined space with poor access. The release of the hospital site in Reading could provide so many opportunities for new uses.

Indeed, the clue is in the name, Royal Berkshire. If the hospital was just for Reading town it would be called Royal Reading.

Logic demands that a new hospital should serve both communities. Be fully accessible to emergency service - So M4 corridor location is good Would also site the ambulance services next door Create separate and sufficient parking - free for NHS staff

The priority has to be efficient patient care followed by a supportive environment for staff. Provided that adequate car parking, 24/7 transport facilities and staff security are provided to the new site, it would make sense to relocate to Shinfield. A new state-of-the art facility that can integrate all medical care requirements would make sense for the 21st Century especially given how population in the catchment area has increased over the years. Sentimentality should not figure here although I note that it is the Royal Berkshire Hospital rather than the Royal Reading Hospital. Lots of scope to consider new uses for the existing site, taking care to preserve the historic buildings on the site. Maybe keep it to transfer recovered patients who are awaiting social care support to stop bed-blocking in the new facility?

Whilst I don't currently live in the area this relocation would be a hugely positive move for the residents of the borough.
