I invite the Council to rethink the transport provided to Cardross pupils travelling to and from Hermitage Academy. As it states on Argyll and Bute website the following:-
AimsThe council aims to assist parents in their responsibility of ensuring that their child attends school safely and on time in line with Council policy on the provision of transport.
The council will also strive to ensure, the most effective, safe and economical use of resources. The council will aim be responsive to the concerns of parents and guardians in the provision of appropriate transport to meet the needs of each child.
Legislation also states:-
Under Section 42 of the Act, the authority must provide free transport or such other arrangements for all pupils up to age 8 who live more than 2 miles from their local school and for all pupils over age 8 who live more than 3 miles from their local school.
However in the past 8 months pupils have missed more than a full day's schooling when all the late arrivals and early departures from school are added up due to having to use other transport as trains have been cancelled, and that's only the occasions when the school have been informed of a cancellation. There have been many times the school knew absolutely nothing and children are left to make their own way to and from school as no alternative transport had been arranged. This is in no way looking after our children's safety.
As an added concern first bus no longer accept scotrail travellers with a ticket so if a child doesn't have any money then using the bus is not an option either.
I think a different means of school transportation needs to be considered as there are far more reliable sources out there. I plan to send this petition to Argyll and Bute Council, all local councillors and our local MP.

I honestly cannot believe how far this has traveled since I first started typing at my kitchen table, and it is honestly wild to see so many people feeling this same frustration about the busing situation. It feels like the momentum has really shifted now, so I suppose it is time to start pushing even harder to show the council that we are not going to just sit back and watch our kids left stranded.

I feel pupils travelling from Cardross should be allowed the safe and reliable transport to and from school. This is simple requirement to allow continuity of education provisions. Cardross pupils are being disadvantaged compared to peers.
I definitely think because this is a far travel plus trains are so unreliable that a school bus would be much safer for the children travelling to the academy
ABC is not getting value for money with ScotRail when it has to use additional support from the bus contract. Better to adopt a reliable transport option for Cardross pupils. Disruption to school days are too frequent and leaves parents concerned for pupil wellbeing when expected transport links fail.
There is not a week goes by without disruption to our children’s travel. They are constantly being stranded after school when trains are cancelled
The train service to/from Cardross is unfortunately no longer reliable. There are too many delays and cancellations affecting our children's attendance at school and also their safety and wellbeing. I certainly hope Argyll and Bute Council have been able to claim compensation for all the cancelled trains (I'm sure it would have mounted up). I also appreciate it must be a complete hassle for their School Transport Team and the school staff left trying to arrange buses and notify parents at very short notice. Whilst I believe up till now the train has been a good option for Cardross travellers, the current situation is dire and I would support a suitable alternative provision.
Kids education should come first over all else.

The trains have been very disruptive for my children travelling to school. They are often cancelled or delayed. This is a major problem for my youngest daughter who has not long turned 12. She has often been left unsure of what to do. I find this especially worrisome before and after school during the darker mornings and afternoons. I have MS and am often unable to go and help her get home from school. I do not drive when it is darker. After school the school is often unaware that the trains have been disrupted, leaving many children stranded. In recent times the disruption to the trains has become very common regardless of the weather. Not only is this affecting their education but also their saftey.
