Civil Liberties Monitoring Committee condemns the arrest of Professor SAR Geelani on concocted charges of sedition. Prof Geelani since his acquittal from false charges in Parliament attack case has been on the target of Hindutva politics. In the past he has survived an assassination attempt and now again Sangh parivar is targeting him for his open views on Kashmiri nationalism, which goes contrary to Sangh’s agenda.
India is fast becoming a totalitarian fascist state where any opposing view against the Government’s dictates is branded as sedition. Space for critical thinking and contrarian view is getting saturated since Narendra Modi became prime minister.
Framing sedition charges on Prof Geelani for pro Kashmiri slogans raised during a public conference at Press Club of India where he was a speaker, is atrocious to say the least. If mere sloganeering to express displeasure against the Government gets branded as seditious then we face the danger of declaring whole marginalized population of this country for having disaffection as simple traitors.
Modi government is giving lead to other past tyrannical governments by upgrading dissenting voices from ‘enemy of the state’ to ‘enemy of the nation’. In doing so government’s aim seems clear to kill every opposition which dares to raise uncomfortable questions on the way things are getting operated by the government.
The attack on journalists, activists and academics inside the court room by goons affiliated to the ruling party speaks volumes of the sincerity of the government have in upholding rule of law. In our view government which is trampling the rule of law and the Constitution of this nation by abuse of power and authority is most guilty of sedition than any other critical dissenting voice.
CLMC demands Government of India to stop the gross abuse of its authority and immediately stop the witch hunt of opposing minds. CLMC demands government to release Prof Geelani and withdraw punitive sedition cases against activists, academics and students.

The Modi government continues to hide behind these pathetic sedition charges while the Sangh Parivar cheers on the silencing of any intellectual dissent. I am working around the clock to expose the true motives behind this crackdown and will not stop until this political persecution ends.

The sheer volume of outrage we are seeing proves that the Modi administration cannot silence the truth with their desperate labels of sedition. This momentum shows the state that their fascist tactics are failing to break our will.

What is freedom, is conveniently decided by time and people, when in position misuse authority.
SAR Geelani is representing voice of millions and millions,how can he be brutally caged for the crime he never committed.
Slapping sedition charges against a human rights defenders is sedition of International human rights instruments of which Indian state is a signatory .
He was framed in 2001 without an iota of evidence, and freed by the High Court. Now he is being targeted on ridiculous charges of sedition that flies in the face of the Supeme Court decision on the applicability of the sedition law. A jingoist hysteria is being built up by the ruling party with the help of some complicit TV channels and the police. Gilani is a senior teacher of Delhi University. Sedition charges against him must be withdrawn and he must be released immediately and unconditionally.
Criminals & murderers are roaming around and Geelani is being persecuted because he is a Kashmiri Muslim. Do not destroy Indian democracy.

Prof.Geelani is not an anti nationalist. He should be released and all cases framed against him should be withdrawn.
