The fare increase is being rolled back and I am genuinely overwhelmed by this result. My daily commute feels a bit lighter today knowing that we pushed back against these unfair costs. Keep watching the upcoming transit budget because we have proven that riders can demand much better.

GO Transit raised fares by 25 cents per ride effective March 14 with one week's notice to the public, before GO Transit publishes its Annual Report, and during a worldwide economic recession. A single ride from Oakville to Union Station will increase from $6 to $6.25 (+4.16%) and a monthly pass from Oakville to Union Station will increase $10 from $195 to $205 (+5.13%). A spokesperson for GO Transit states the fare increase is in line with inflation. Inflation is pegged at 2.4% for 2008 and 1.10% for 2009. GO recovers 82 per cent of its operating revenue through fares, one of the highest transit cost recovery rates in the world. To that end, we the undersigned, as riders and/or Ontario taxpayers, sign this petition to demand from GO Transit and the Ministry of Transportation, the following: - GO Transit does not raise its fares for 2009. - GO Transit decreases the cost recovery ratio immediately for 2009, resulting in a net fare decrease. - GO Transit to further reduce its fare to pre-2008 levels to reflect the recent 40% drop in fuel prices. - GO Transit publishes its Annual Report prior to rate increases. My daily commute feels heavier knowing these costs keep climbing despite the plummeting fuel prices. We are almost at one hundred signatures so please blast this link out to your own networks right now. I need your help to get us over this hump before the transit board meets again.

We are approaching one thousand signatures and this momentum proves that riders are fed up with these hikes. Please post this link to your social media accounts so we can hit that target before I deliver our demands to the Ministry.

Gas prices went down but ticket prices go up?? Someone explain the math on that because it makes zero sense.

Ridiculous. My commute costs enough already and now they want more money for the same service? Stop punishing the people who take the train.

Economy is bad enough without go transit hiking prices on everyone. We are already struggling to pay rent.
