To our elected City Council Members,
Please take responsible action and ensure you have carefully considered all other options regarding the use of taxpayer funds for infrastructure improvements. Have you taken equitable financial action in supporting the improvements to the area between Goodlette-Frank and Hwy 41? As it relates to Naples, have you properly analyzed current transportation-related needs, growth and shopping trends and the impact of technology over the next twenty years all subsequent to the original Duany study and, if so, why is the original study referenced so often?
Please slow this particular proposed "spend" of our taxpayer resources down. Let the community and our elected officials properly evaluate all options....equitable to the entire community and, which will maximize the return on our investment. It's the right thing to do!

Could this happen in your Naples neighborhood? When at least 15 Condominium Associations, their unit owners and countless single family homeowners in the impacted area declare they will experience multiple negative impacts including adverse valuations to their properties, while at the same time some in the city propose to pay for a 350 space garage to gain 250 unneeded spaces, there can be no clearer vote than, “No.” Urge all our Council Members to reject the Proposed Garage.

My name is Mitch McLeod and my wife, Julie, and I are full-time Naples Residents. We currently live at 400 Gulf Shore Blvd. S, which is on the South West corner of 4th Avenue South and Gulf Shore Blvd. S. We are also building a new home on the South East corner of 4th Avenue South and Gulf Shore Boulevard South. As you might guess, we feel that we will be directly and drastically impacted by the 4th Avenue Garage. We are also very concerned that the proposed parking garage will result in a dimunition of value in our homes, as well as all homes in the neighborhood.
Julie and I have chosen to make this area of Old Naples our permanent residence because of its charm, solitude and general feeling of safety. We are gravely concerned about the impact of the proposed garage on the local neighborhood and 4th Ave. South. As full-time residents, over the past three years we have witnessed firsthand the ebbs and flows of foot traffic and car traffic in and around 4th Avenue South and GSBS. We have experienced theft and car break-ins during broad daylight and beach litterbugs (on a daily basis). We have come to realize that these issues are a pitfall of living both near the beach and downtown. This is important to note, though, since the reality is that many visitors will use the proposed garage for beach parking, thereby increasing the foot traffic along 4th Avenue South between the proposed garage and the beach. The quality of life of the homeowners of the condominiums and homes along 4th Avenue South will be severely impacted. What is currently a quiet, safe avenue that you can easily walk down or ride your bike down will become a major thoroughfare. With additional beach foot traffic and car traffic there will be noise, litter, theft and property destruction. This currently happens at peak days such as St. Patricks Day parade, New Years, July 4th and holiday weekends, and even on non-peak days to a lesser degree. Adding a garage is a bad decision especially when this is being done when many voters/residents are not is in town during the summer. Reasons for voting NO are:
1) price (15MM) is to high when another option which gives 157 parking spaces at NO COST; The additional 200 parking spaces cost 75K/space (15MM/ 200 = 75K)
2) this was nearly litigated when it was done the last time. Result was a 22 condo & 157 parking places that all agreed to
3) Garage will be used for free beach parking on a beach that is too narrow and with NO FACILITIES. Garbage will be littered from the beach to the garage. Beach goers will use the bathrooms of merchants or worse, do it publicly.
4) These are other options for add'l parking. 1000 parking spaces exist in local churches within 4 blocks for employee parking (Venetian village does this with St. John Episcopal Church)
5) Hoffmann - owner of parcel is getting a sweet deal of 11MM; 6MM for land + 5MM getting 1/3 of parking spaces for no cost (1/3 * 15MM = 5MM)

On the weekends and every day in season this garage will bring in 700 cars to Old Naples on a daily basis. 350 during the day for primarily the beach and 350 at night for the restaurants - as if getting a reservation is already hard enough. Those 350 cars will put 700 - 1000 additional people into the 5th Ave S area, again isn't already too crowded?

Too drastic of a move. Way too much congestion and not right to put in residential area. The street and beaches can't handle the extra 350 carloads of people. The area will lose its charm.

As a small business owner, and a mother raising 3 small kids in our town, I strongly oppose the excessive development that is going on in our town. We all fell in love with naples for a reason (or 10!) and we chose to raise our family here. I feel the by city council approving this garage, it is NOT addressing parking issues, but laying groundwork for further development in our neighborhoods. Go somewhere else for that.
