We, the undersigned residents of Flagstaff, oppose Eva Putzova's petition calling for an ordinance to shield illegal migrants from Federal Immigration authorities. If implemented, her proposed ordinance would serve as a beacon drawing criminal migrants and violent gang members to Flagstaff for protection from Federal law enforcement. A sudden criminal influx would expose our unprotected and vulnerable migrants (with no citizenship rights) to subjugation and victimization without legal recourse. Ill-prepared migrants require food, housing, and financial support at city taxpayers’ expense. As evidenced in San Antonio, TX, Aurora, CO, Seattle, WA, Springfield, OH, and other communities, our city will see increased crime, overwhelming our local law enforcement and social services while encouraging the human and drug trafficking industries. The threat to businesses and citizens’ safety is real. Ms. Putzova’s proposed ordinance violates Federal and State law while protecting criminals from deportation. We call on the City Council to revisit their sworn oath to represent the citizens and businesses of Flagstaff. Please reject Ms. Putzova’s irresponsible petition and make the citizens of Flagstaff your first priority. No one is above the law.

Updates

February 7, 2025

The ongoing discussions regarding the proposed sanctuary ordinance have revealed a significant divergence between municipal policy and the tangible needs of our community members. I am currently compiling a formal statement for the City Council to ensure they acknowledge the legal and economic risks outlined in our petition. Expect a detailed summary of their latest public remarks in the coming days.

The response to this petition confirms that many Flagstaff residents remain deeply concerned about the implications of the proposed sanctuary city ordinance. This momentum demonstrates a widespread commitment to maintaining the rule of law within our community. We must continue to apply this pressure on the City Council to ensure our public safety remains the primary focus.

Mayor and City Council took an oath to uphold the law and protect your citizens; not using taxpayers dollars on ways to protect those running around unaccountable

Along with the general comments of the petition, there are also our own homeless Flagstaff residents who ARE citizens. The City has a duty to aid these most vulnerable people before extending a hand to foreigners. You cannot offer our city as a sanctuary of you cannot help our own homeless citizens first.

This would increase crime and put a strain on our already inadequate resources for the people who actually live here and pay taxes to this town.

I had to call the law on a homeless man from Haiti , he had broke into my backyard and was sleeping in my wood shed. We found him 2 days in a row. The police finally arrested him! I live in University Heights!

There should be NO NEED for sanctuary cities if all those that wish to immigrate into the US come through the proper channels. Flagstaff should NOT be a sanctuary city.

Flagstaff needs to obey the laws of the land, and not risk losing federal funding because a few people want to go rogue and make their OWN laws.
