Please keep the rink open during the day. Skating is great exercise. Encourage mums and babies to come skating.

An unforgivable move if it goes ahead...

It doesn't make sense to withdraw sports facilities when the government is trying to encourage people to lead healthier lifestyles. Try running coffee mornings for the retired, mum and toddler sessions for stuck at home mums, special sessions for disabled and wheelchair skaters and other similar initiatives. Even the notorious Planet Ice manages to keep its rinks open during the daytime!!!

I can't but help feel that this planned move by the council is rather short sighted and doesn't demonstrate an understanding of the industry an ice rink operates in. Yes daytime usage in the school term will be light but the rink still serves an important function which helps to promote sport, healthy living and community working. There are many ways in which the ice rink could potentially offset the £40k shortfall - targeting schools, housewives/husbands, community and special needs groups are just a few that spring to mind. These should be properly investigated before taking this potentially devastating decision. In addition, reduced operating hours can (and often do) have the effect of lowering attendance during peak periods in the leisure sector. A facility that spends so much time closed tends to gain a reputation/perception of never being open which serves as a negative advertisement for the facility during its usual peak times.

Please don't change the times

We go to the home educators session on Wednesdays and my kids absolutely love it. They have lessons too, and have a great time socially with their friends. They'd be devastated if this session was taken away from them.

Another nail in the coffin of leisure facilities or healthy exercise!! Our green fields are disappearing at an alarming rate, giving way to hundreds of houses.......nowhere for people to walk safely, or children to play and yet the Government blabs on about obesity!!!! Get real keep our leisure facilities.

The ice rink is like a 2nd home to me, its where I go to be happy and if the hours get cut down it just ruins the people who go there oftens time and experience.

Please keep this rink open

It would be a shame to close the rink during the day. The coolers would still be on. There would be minimal saved in electrics, surely? Maybe look to having volunteers staff during the day to save paying staff?

If they close during the day, it will be the start of it closing forever.

There are too few ice rinks to begin with. Make the most of those we have!

My grandad skates here every Tuesday and Thursday morning, he lives for ice skating, please don't take this joy away from him !

Crazy idea!! Try running some toddler classes and/or adult classes in the day time. Oxford does and they are well attended.

We need to keep the doors open

Surely they should be looking to increase income but as per usual, the council way is to cut, cut, cut. Just pray they don't outsource it to a management company as prices will rise considerably

I wonder if the council would consider a joint venture between a community group and the council? Ryde is community owned. Was this by a Community Benefit Society ? Can enough money be raised to make up the shortfall that the council is trying to save?

Shutting in the daytime will mean losing patch ice. Losing patch ice will mean losing skaters that pay a monthly membership. Young skaters will find somewhere else to train. Decreasing opening hours is a slippery slope to closing all together. This must not happen.

Children should be encouraged to take part in healthy pastimes, taking this away is not a good example.

I use the rink in the days of the week as it is much quieter and easier to train.
