We, the undersigned residents of Walnut Creek and Concord California strongly oppose the Walnut Creek Park, Recreation and Open Space Commission's newly proposed trail expansion project, known as the Lime Ridge Open Space Trail Expansion. The plan calls for Mountain Bike FLOW trails to be built. A FLOW trail does not align with the goal of Lime Ridge Open Space to Preserve our hills. We object to the Flow trail due to the following negative impacts such a proposed expansion will have on the community :
- Increased Environmental Impact and Hill Erosion
- Increased number of Mountain Bikers coming to Lime Ridge
- Increased Traffic Congestion on Arbolado Drive and Valley Vista Road
- Increased Risk of Fire and decreased Risk of Fire Response Ability
- Increased Noise and Disturbance to residents
- Decreased Privacy for residents
- Decreased Capacity for Hikers and Equestrian Users
We further call on the PROS Commission and the city of Walnut Creek to meet with homeowners and community members to embrace alternative plans that would consider the environment as well as the privacy and safety of the homes that are adjacent to Lime Ridge. We ask the PROS commission and the City Council of Walnut Creek to protect our Open Space!
This petition was created by residents of Walnut Creek that wish to preserve and protect our open space. Who want our city to abide by the principles outlined when the open space was purchased by the taxpayers of Walnut Creek.

The response to this petition has reached a significant level of momentum that confirms the community shares our concerns regarding the proposed trail expansion. This collective engagement ensures that the city and the commission must now acknowledge the gravity of these potential impacts on our neighborhood.

It sounds like thrill seekers could get hurt and first responders have a difficult rescue environment. I’m concerned about wildlife effects too, as I’m aware of shrinking habitat and have even provided a small certified backyard wildlife habitat at my home on Navaronne Way.
I strongly oppose the Bike Flow Trail. Currently it has become increasing Dangerous to ride my horse, because of the speed the Mountain Bikers travel at. They scare the horses and increase the probability of injury to all.
I live just below Lime Ridge and am extremely concerned about fire dangers, dangerous biker interface with current uses, and the negative impact on the ridge as an ecosystem. Bikers are a huge problem for pedestrians on the canal trail and local streets - isn’t that enough?
I have lived here for 29 years and loved loved loved walking Lime Ridge open space with my family and friends, now it is impossible to walk because of all the mountain bikes who consistently use the single trails and ignore all signage.
I live on the small court that is proposed for expansion for mountain biking. This is a small court and I have concerns this will cause excessive parking from out of the area and other problems. Please reject this proposed trail change.
Read the Lime Ridge Master Plan It states that Lime Ridge Trails are intended for passive use by hikers and equestrian riders, and that use for cyclists is not appropriate. That IS the master plan.
Im a mountain biker, we will always ride on lime ridge, and if you take away our trails, well, we have no choice but to create new ones. And don't even get me started on the miles of huge fire roads. Yea one tiny single track will do sooo much "damage" compared to a 6foot wide fire road going for miles through out the open space. We want one trail. Its not that much. There are also designated parking lots, and lots of room still for you guys to park. Besides, we are trying to keep nature the way it is so that we can have fun in it. We are not big monsters trying to destroy all of whats good in the open space.

Attended the City Parks and Recreation Meeting - They did not even ask Rancho Paraiso residents for feedback. Just because of their action, the City do not represent our interest as WC residents. This is unacceptable.
