Reject HB 1263 NH Hostile Homeschool Bill

Just let homeschoolers be. Focus on the broken part of education....the public school system.

Do not pass

This Bill is rooted in mistrust and does not serve the targeted group.

In cases of neglect and abuse the law already provides an avenue for the state to intervene. The law would unduly burden the state and overstretched employees with no guarantee that records would be secured, in addition to the additional burden on home educators. And Individuals who currently refuse to comply with the law as it is written are not likely to come in compliance under further threat. It is not wise to transfer the powers of social services and law enforcement to the division of education where these divisions currently hold powers to intervene in troubling situations.

This bill brings nothing positive for our wonderful homeschool community in NH.

This bill would be so detrimental to the NH homeschooling community, robbing us of hard fought freedoms to teach our children the way we feel is best.

Please do not support HB 1263.

Reject this bill. It is not a one bill cures all.

Parents should be able to home school their children

There are many comments above that are spot-on so I will not repeat them. This is completely unnecessary and antithetical to the NH way of life in general. Many NH residents have relocated here to escape just this kind of nonsense. The current setup is more than sufficient. I do not support HB 1263 nor will I support anything like it in the future.

Good afternoon members of the committee, my name is Mark Bodanza and I live in Hillsborough, NH. My wife and I have homeschooled our children for the last 14 years. We are both college educated and have pursued high standards for our children. We have enjoyed the freedom of home education, with little oversight, and much "success"; based upon the state and national testing standards. We understand there are concerns, in particular to families who may not educate their children at all, but this should not result in regulation of all homeschool families. I respectfully entreat the committee to consider that most children who have no education are also in the state system due to other concerns and can be addressed this way if needed. All in all we would desire you to ITL the bill and not to regulate homeschooled families in this fashion. Respectfully, Mark Bodanza

I respectfully ask you to oppose 1263. Homeschooling works wonderful in the great state of New Hampshire. Statistics have proven that over and over! Please oppose 1263. Thank you.

This bill is over reaching and, frankly, ridiculous. What a disrespect to parents.

The current law is fair and constructive. I strongly oppose HB 1263 because it would usher in abuse of government power and the loss of the rights of parents to be in charge of the care and upbringing of their children, which includes their child's way and means of education.

This is an egregious intrusion into the fundamental rights of parents, and is completely unnecessary. This is simply a further expansion of the State's authority and ability to exercise such authority to sanction lifestyles and beliefs it does not agree with while simultaneously promulgating and inculcating its own doctrines and beliefs. Such is completely anethema to the basic concepts of the First Amendment, both of the United States, and the relevant portions of the New Hampshire Constitution.

This bill is unnecessary and offensive to fundamental rights of parents. Humble yourselves and remember that managing your own life is a full-time job, and you have no business trying to manage the lives of others.
