The 7 period schedule eliminates great dual enrollment and CTE classes which are very important for some students to truly adventure out in their possible career path or get ahead in college. By taking that away, that limits a student into finding their niche. Also, by having a 7 period schedule, students will not get a fresh start during school. There will no longer be class changes going into the second semester. Same classes. Same kids. Same teachers. I believe it is very important for student (and teachers) to get a fresh start because not only is that a possible relief for stressful classes, but it also helps teachers reach more students and promote social interaction with kids that students may not otherwise associate with. Finally, I think that teacher-student relationships are important in making a great learning environment. If there is a good relationship, students are more likely to work hard out of respect for their teacher. If they don't have a positive relationship, that goes back to getting a fresh start at the new semester. If this new schedule is implemented, classes will become skinnies therefor allowing less time for teachers to truly get to know their students.

What a big mistake this would be if they change it to this schedule. How do you expect students to be IB diploma candidates if they cannot get to the higher level sciences, foreign languages, etc.? This proposed schedule will also nearly destroy CTE classes, the AP sciences/maths/histories. Along with chances for early grads. People like CHS because of the options available in scheduling and classes, plus I thought CHS was about preparing students for college and/or jobs after high school.

Cookeville high's freshmen class is basically equivalent to Uppermans entire student body. You can't expect a school with as many kids as Cookeville has, to be able to function on the same schedule as a school with as many kids as Upperman has. It just won't work. The schedule we have now works perfectly for everyone.

My daughter has worked extremely hard to be able to graduate and start her college career EARLY! Taking senior classes as a Junior, and went to Sylvan for almost a year and advanced there as well. She is a junior and in her senior year, all she has to take is her senior Math, English and 1 Medical career path class to graduate in December 2017. All could be done first semester with the block schedule! If the period schedule takes place, I can almost guarantee she will go back to Sylvan over the summer, take her classes online and not even return to CHS for Senior year. She has worked very hard and deserves the opportunity to see her hard work pay off!! Don't change the schedule!! Bad idea!

I believe fine arts classes, and extra curricular classes regarding our future plans are very important to a lot of people. A. Seven period schedule would take that privilege away.
