Skills are an invaluable part of some boxers development. This restriction has come at a poor time in the season and there is only the boxer and clubs that suffer once again.

Skills bouts are a fundamental part of many Junior boxers learning and development. It allows young people to achieve before competing in a full bout with the opportunity for coaches to assess their development. Skills bouts also gives the opportunity for friends and family to support both the club and the member and is a financial lifeline for many boxing clubs around the country.

I’m signing this because I feel lowering the age of skills bout from 16yr old to 13yr olds will be detrimental to our sport. This will stop children from starting our sport from 13 upwards. We are all working together towards the same goal. Where we can get the children off the streets and into our boxing club. I feel this will hinder our goal.

This too young for the skills restrictions to be on. Some boxers of this age need a number of skills bouts to gain confidence in the ring, in front of a crowd, before a scored bout. Skills bouts should allow young boxers the ability to develop, without fear of a loss when they start out. Taking this pressure away from young boxers allows them to find out who they are as a boxer (style etc.) as well as developing skill. Skills bouts also teach them much more than what happens in the ring. It gets them into the routine of what is expected on a bout day i.e. gum shield, weigh in and medicals all needing to be right. These preliminary things cause anxiety and stress on the first outing, which I think is often best done in the context of a skills bout for young boxers. I think for many boxers this age, having your first outing being your first scored bout too, may prove too much for some at this young age and we risk turning boxers away from the sport because their confidence is shattered first time out. Skills shouldn't be mandatory at this age, but they should be an option and the coaches should have autonomy over whether this is the right option for their boxer.

It is vital that young people are allowed the opportunity to compete in skills bouts so that their confidence can develop which can only be very positive. Parents really appreciate the chance too for their children to compete in the boxing ring in front of many people in a far more controlled way, learning how to box without too much pressure on winning the bout.

Boxing Fit Academy Very disappointed in England boxings decision to lower the age limit for skills bouts to 13yrs. I have no doubt that will only make it harder for clubs to keep kids involved with sports. Frank

Stopping Skills Contests for over 13 year olds does not promote or further Amateur Boxing, it sets it back

Skills are a valuable option to kids removing them is going to affect clubs on every level I personally don’t agree with removing them at all.

Personally I have a few young lads 14/15 that I can not put in for a bout, as they are just too timid and would not be able to cope with the pressure from a boxer.. Some kids need the skills, otherwise we lose them back to the streets after waiting longer now for a bout, well we will not sure on others.. I Dont think this is a good move at all..

Skills bouts have played a crucial part in the development of young boxers for years. They keep participant numbers up and give non competitive a chance of inclusion keeping numbers up and clubs thriving.

This is a disgrace not everyone is ready for a proper contest in their first bout some youngsters have to be weaned into boxing and skills bouts are the way to go Leave the age limit to under 16 years of age and stop putting obstacles in the way of hard working boxers and coaches

Not old kids are the same ability and some need more time than others to grow in confidence. Im sure we will lose young people stepping foot in gyms if they are forced into bouts rather than a controlled skills bout

I think it is an outright outrageous decision by whoever's decided to change rules regarding skill bouts without consulting clubs first ,.Nothing but an arrogant disregard for members
