I am in favor of bringing back Rule of 90 to help districts (and teachers) make appropriate future financial plans in support of our students and communities we serve.

I have contacted Rep. Paul Marquart (who is also a teacher at DGF public schools) about this as well. The truth is, we have no retirement plan, and the expense of keeping teachers past 60 is going to be an enormous burden to school districts who are already trying to balance budgets without the added top-end salaries.

It is a good idea to reinstate the Rule of 90 in Minnesota. Teachers get over the age of 60 and many of them are burnt-out. I've seen it happen to many educators who were very passionate throughout their careers. 64 year-olds very rarely can relate to, or have the energy to, keep up with adolescents. It is good to have a mix of young and old on a school staff but getting into your 60's is too old to be working with the young, energetic kids. Also, it is financially beneficial for a school district to have younger teachers on their payroll.

It would be cost effective for school districts. My salary would pay for 2 1/2 new teachers. Without Rule of 90 I will be working an additional 8 years at a much higher rate of pay. That is 20 teachers worth during this time.

Reinstating the Rule of 90 would be a great way to encourage a new wave of teachers to join this rewarding and noble profession.

Fewer and fewer qualified young people are going into teaching; there has to be more of an incentive.

Young staff need more motivation to stay teaching..things keep ggetting more difficult with less incentive.
