I support the Rule of 90 for both teachers and students. If teachers are expected to work to the age of 66 and have lost their passion, it is detrimental to the entire school community, most importantly, the children.

I did retire under the Rule of 90 which was the best thing that could have happened to me. I love children but the physical and mental stress was getting to be too much at 58 years of age. It wasn't my way of teaching anymore which caused most of the stress. All the fun was taken out of teaching because we needed to teach to the tests. If you want to maintain teachers you need to bring back the Rule of 90 as an incentive to continue teaching.

From a financial stand point, it would make sense that school districts would want to pay teachers who are younger, tech savvy, possibly more energetic, and less expensive when compared to teachers who are older, more experienced, and more expensive. It is difficult to weigh possibly savvy, more energetic vs experience use to today's level of accountability. But if you can lower the ratio of students to teacher, then you may be able to more greatly impact student achievement and closing the learning gap. Additionally, we need to get more teachers into the profession of teaching. The current number of openings when compared to the number of quality applicants shouts volumes for teachers to retire, opening up jobs for younger teachers.

The Rule of 90 should be reinstated for what is best for all. Teachers give a great effort to be in front students on daily basis. It will be almost impossible at the age of 66 or higher for students to receive the best each day from their educators. Teachers, students, and the state, deserve people's best. With the reinstitution of Rule of 90, this would be one step forward in continuing to make Minnesota a leader in education. The attraction of new teachers is difficult in Minnesota and this would be another reason, to hopefully get young people interested in the field of education.

I get a lot of comments from parents and students that one of the reasons that I am so good at teaching is because of the energy I have when I teach. It scares me to think that I will be teaching these young minds when I am 66 years old when a more energetic, younger teacher could be teaching them instead. I can't see myself coming in an doing all the things that I am doing now to make them as excited about learning.

I will be at Rule of 90 in four years. I will be 56 years. I have been in the field for 30 years and may want to work longer, but to stay until 66 years old would put me at 44 years of service. There is a lot of physical energy with this job. Please make this a priority without reducing my pension. Thank you, Tami Corder

Please bring back the rule of 90 or something equivalent to it. I cannot imagine doing this job until I'm 68 years old! Maybe a job where I'm at a desk or on the computer, but not in front of young children.

Working in education takes an emotional toll on educators and support staff. We take on the personal struggles and hardships that our students face everyday. Many times, we are the only stable adult support these students have. This can be both an honor and an exhaustive responsibility.
