Teaching is a profession that is becoming increasingly difficult for many reasons. We need benefits that encourage quality people to want to do this job!!

Please reinstate the Rule of 90!

Reinstating Rule of 90 or something similar would allow Minnesota to keep quality teachers in the classroom. First, teacher burnout rates are high so the likelihood that teachers will stay in the field until 65 is decreasing on a yearly basis, especially with the teacher shortages. Secondly, teachers who are teach for 50 years will struggle to keep up with changing technology, and the changing culture of students. I'm a relatively young teacher, and I sometimes struggle to understand the current student culture. We don't want ineffective, out of touch teachers, which will most likely happen if you make us teach till we are 65.

Please make funding Rule of 90 a priority. Not only is this a benefit for retiring teachers, it makes it possible for younger teachers to enter this career. In addition, our students deserve to have a progressive and diverse teacher pool, not one dominated by teachers 60+.

I have Rule of 90 but my husband missed it by less than a month! Teaching is a tough career and I believe those who have scored 90 years combined have earned retirement with full benefits. It may serve as an incentive for some teetering with changing careers part way in to reconsider.

Colorado has "Rule of 80". It is easier to get young people into teaching knowing they will not become exhausted before retirement.

I became a certified teacher one year after it went out of effect. I had a seperate degree from teaching originally. My friend and teacher has taught one year more than myself and will be able to retire under the rule of 90 at 55. I will need to work to at least to 62 after coaching countless hours for 25 years. I love what I do please understand. I just want some options to work part time and do volunteer work. Compare the difference of 7 years between my coworker and I it seems lopsided.

I am deeply concerned about this issue. Districts carrying teachers on payrolls for these additional years will result in programming cuts and larger class sizes and districts struggle to pay salaries for extended periods to those on the top of the pay scale. In addition, teaching is a job for the young. With the ever changing clientele, it is important that teachers are able to stay connected to students. As teachers age, the ability to connect or just "keep up" is greatly diminished. Although there are many teachers who can meet the demand , there are others that will struggle and a disservice will be done to our students. It is also important that there is a sense of "urgency" to attract individuals to the profession and address teacher shortages that are/will be inevitable despite keeping educators in the profession longer. Money spent on these salaries for extended years could actually go to supplement "grow your own" programs and put new educators in the classroom and diversify the teaching profession.

Teaching has been politicized, contracts are much less appealing to new hires, insurance coverage has been reduced consistently each year, and fewer new teachers are staying. Perhaps this is ONE thing EM could do to make teaching attractive to new hires and existing people in the profession. Please consider reinstating the Rule of 90.
