The school board needs to wake up! This is why the school system cannot keep good teachers who care about their students. Suspend a teacher for saying the word ass? That is just ridiculous!

This is just shocking to me. I agree this is absurd and shows once again the poor leadership in Vance County. Now we truly understand why VCS is one of the lowest ranking schools in the state. As most have stated, I also was taught by Miss Wiggins (Class of 1998) at SVHS and one of the main influences and reasons I got through US History. Not many teachers can make learning fun and exciting each and every day. Now the word ass has been used in many different books inc,using the Holy one - and I have to agree the kids in today society use harsher language than that. However, sometimes you have to stoop to their level for them to understand. Show your support and let's get this teacher back in the classroom.

This is so petty. Mrs. Wiggins is one of the most positive and influential teachers I have ever known. I still vividly remember questions on her test and the lessons learned in her classroom. Mrs. Wiggins you are loved by many, including myself! Stand tall and hold your head up.

She is human and we all get pushed to a breaking point, 20+ years and this is her first, I see children that don't get this much for their words or actions

Once again V CS shows poor judgement. Sandra Wiggins is one of the best teachers in the system and removing her from the classroom days before the AP exam shows poor leadership on all levels.

i miss her she is like my second mom she is always there when i need her and she always put a smile on my face so i do the same but when comes to teaching shes the best at that im a senior since i came to southern vance she been on my back to be something great since day 1

As a life-long Vance County resident, I have seen the administration of Vance County Schools run the gamut of foolishness, however, this is one of the most asinine scenarios I have ever witnessed. In a time when Vance County students are desperate for high-quality, caring and experienced teachers, the administration deems it necessary to suspend a veteran AP teacher days before her students take the AP exam over a minor, petty infraction? Talk about using the proverbial ninety-pound hammer to kill a gnat! I seriously question whether the administration would have taken the same action had the very same incident occurred with a male teacher or coach. I personally believe that similar circumstances happen in Vance County on a daily basis and the administration never bats an eye. It makes me wonder if there is something more going on in this situation. Sexism? Politics? Personal vendetta? I think the administration owes Ms. Wiggins and her students some serious answers.

Mrs. Wiggins was my teacher back in 00-04. She was one on my favorite teachers. As an educator myself, these children have no respect for teachers and some could care less about school! The sad part about it is I teach Kindergarten. Education starts at HOME!!!! She deserves to be working. We need more teachers like her. How many of her students have cursed her out without any consequences? Mrs. Wiggins was firm but fair.

It seems to me that the students are the ones suffering the most in this situation as they have to endure the absence of their teacher during test prep for the AP US History exam. We are in desperate need of quality teachers in Vance County. We have one in Sandra Wiggins. She not only teaches, but loves her students. I think this matter should be revisited immediately.
