She is one of the best things in that school! Worked with Sandra for several years and she is a great teacher who believes in her students and in Vance County! She has always been there for her students and expects the very best from them. Vance County can't afford to lose another great teacher!

As a credentialed teacher, I find the action taken against Ms. Wiggins by the Vance County Schools to be ridiculously harsh and punitive. Perhaps they are not aware that an ass is an animal.

Good job , VCS suspend the best history in your county two weeks before the AP exam. Brilliant! But the superindent can cuss out Principals? Smells fishy

Vance County should feel grateful to have a teacher stick around in a crumbling system for over TWENTY YEARS. To punish her to this extent and to take her out of the classroom at this critical state-mandated testing season is to diminish all the positive she has done and is truly ludicrous. She should be reinstated and offered an apology. A warning would have sufficed for this amazing teacher.

If I were in her shoes, I would immediately contact a lawyer and have every member who had a role in this suspension sued for defamation of character . The word "ass" as part of this expression is not in itself a severe form of profanity. As a matter of fact, it is also used to describe a subgenus of Equus that includes the donkey and other asses. Would the use of that word alone be enough to suspend anyone?

There are so many "other" offenses committed every single day by some of your teachers or Principals that believe me are FAR more egregious! Address THOSE. Look in your complaint files. Please in THIS instance, don't throw out the baby with the bath water.

Idiot administrators like this are why my folks paid for me to go to private school instead of Vance county schools.

This is why Vance County has some of the problems its does. It makes big issues of out of the small issues and the real big issues they make them small. This person should be reinstated to her position.

As a former high school teacher, I find this decision laughable! If Mrs. Wiggins had sent a referral to the office stating that a student had used "ass" in the classroom, the administration would have done nothing and said that the teacher was overreacting. Coaches use much worse language everyday day. What an insult to a evidently well loved teacher who has given 25 plus years to educating students!

As a teacher who attended Vance Senior High and now teach high school in Georgia, this response to her action is absurd!! Our required literature books contain far more inappropriate language than this (ex. Diary of Anne Frank, The Outsiders, To Kill a Mockingbird, Romeo and Juliet). Vance County Schools have been in dire need of a reality check or many years! This should be taken to the news stations and to the state DOE.
