Censorship of books and art in a public, tax-funded library, especially when the art is clearly misunderstood, has no place. Nor does termination of employees for resisting such censorship. Let parents censor what their children read instead, and reinstate terminated employees.

Firing librarians for displaying a rainbow flag and carrying a book about non-binary people is a form of censorship the Natzis used in the 1930’s. This is 2023, and we shouldn’t be having this type of discussion. I urge the reinstatement of both librarians in a swift manner.

Vibrant colors in the shape of a rainbow for many years have represented diversity. Rainbow colors are used in the marketing for July Disability Pride Month which celebrates the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Reinstate the library staff.
