This is a disgrace.

A ver short-sighted policy on the part of NRW.

Pulling funding for this project is an example of the poor environmental record of the Welsh Assembly Labour government

Having visited Skomer several times (I live in Leicestershire) I am appalled by the decision to cut the funding for this long established vital project. Our seabirds need all the protection available and for this we need scientific recording, etc.

This is really important research and I cannot believe funding has been taken away, especially this year after the winter storms. It is important that we monitor the health of our bird population.

How are we supposed to maintain accurate statistics on bird populations (and therefore take action when there's a decline) when funding cuts such as this occur?

£12K is a miniscule figure in the scale of public spending, studies such as this can inadvertantly feed other areas of science such as climate change effects

Wildlife recording and research is a vital tool in conservation around the world. This is a very short-sighted and callous disregard for the future of our wildlife and indeed ultimately our own survival. Of course, wildife can't vote, so it's an easy target for cuts. Please reconsider this decision to cut funding to such an important and on-going study at a time when we should all be working towards the protection of our seas and the wildlife around our shores.
