It is a pity so much funding is driven by short-term thinking instead of understanding to critical importance of long-term data-sets and their analysis. This tends to reflect badly on administrators who fail to understand the real issues.

As a proffesional ecologist myself I am dismayed at the this rather short-term thinking. In a world of climate change there has never been a more important time to understand what is happening to our wild polulations where they be flora or fauna. Wise heads should re-instate the funding or provide alternative funds to allow this important study to continue.

The value of long-term studies can not be under-estimated - if this study fails to continue through lack of funding, the world (not just the UK) will loose patterns emerging for instance through climate change - and this at a time when such data are requiredike never before in modern times.

More important now than ever due to the decline after this winter's disastrous weather!

This sounds like so many similar cuts in Germany. Too bad for the state of our planet, which once has been created for all kinds of creatures, and not just for the human race.

Skomer and its wildlife deserve all the protection we can give! The funding is crucial and needs to be reinstated now!
