We welcome the news that the Labour Party whip has been restored to Diane Abbott. We are however dismayed by reports that Labour's National Executive Committee intends to block Ms Abbott from standing as the Labour candidate for Hackney North & Stoke Newington at the General Election on 4th July 2024.

Why is this important?

Diane Abbott is Britain’s first Black female MP. Elected in 1987, she is the country’s longest-serving Black MP and has represented the Labour Party and her constituents for more than 36 years. In 2022, she was unanimously re-selected by members of her Constituency Labour Party.

Diane has been treated appallingly by the Labour Party. We believe that Keir Starmer and the Labour leadership have not been truthful about their decisions; have deliberately sought to humiliate Ms Abbott and by extension, totally disregarded local Party democracy.

As a lifelong campaigner for equality and justice, Diane has stood by so many of us, and now it is time for us to stand by her.

By signing this petition, you will be sending a message of solidarity to Diane.

I just looked at the count and we are right on the edge of hitting that first hundred milestone which honestly felt like a lot when I started this yesterday but now it feels like just the beginning. I really need you all to send this link to your group chats or maybe just post it to your timeline again because people are finally starting to pay attention and I do not want us to lose this momentum now.

Seeing the numbers creep up gives me so much hope but we honestly need a massive surge right now because hitting that thousand mark before tomorrow would really shake things up. I am sitting here refreshing the page every few minutes and if everyone reading this just grabs their phone and sends the link to a few people who care about local democracy we could actually cross that threshold today.

An apology & immediate withdrawal of the letter were made. This does not merit the major punishment meted out by Labour bureaucrats to Diane Abbott MP - she has given a lifetime's service to the people of Hackney & the black community.

It's unjust that such a brilliant MP who campaigned all her life against racism and has herself suffered most racism than all the MPs out together should have the whip taken from the party she had served for over three decades. It must be restored immediately.

I am sending a message of support to Diana Abbott. The racism experiences of Black people is on a different level to other white groups. My voice to Keir Starmer and Alan Campbell, Diana is an invaluable MP in the Labour Party. Diana is why I vote Labour.

I fully support this petition. The Whip must be returned to Ms Abbott without further delay. She has unreservedly apologised and acknowledged her mistake. The work she does locally is second to none. She is a remarkable MP and Sir Keir Starmer needs to act.

The Home Secretary called migrants criminals and broke the ministerial code, yet wasn't even criticised by the PM and not investigated. Diane Abbott must be restored to her position. She represents my community, the black community.

If democracy means anything, Diane should be reinstated. She is a fabulous MP who really puts in so much work to representing her constituents. This is why she has such a strong majority. Reinstate Diane in the name of democracy!

Racism against brown skin is a reality! My daughter was 2 years old when she was first called the N word because of the colour of her skin. It's the only reason the 10 year old boy called her the N word. The next time a child was racist to her twin brother when asked why he was racist to my 3 year old his reply was COLOUR!!! It is different racism IT IS BECAUSE OF SKIN COLOUR. Diane is mearly stating facts. Am happy to join a peaceful protest.
