Reinstate Aurora Berger to her position as Art Teacher at Newton School

Strafford's children deserve the opportunity to have this excellent artist as their teacher!

I have known Aurora Berger since my daughter and her attended school together. She was a lovely child and is an extraordinary teacher, artist and friend to her students continually providing positive support and experience to her students as well as cultivating their love for art. This school system is making a huge mistake in letting her go. Any child unsupervised can find anything they want out there. Maybe this particular parent should monitor her child more closely.

She is a great person knows how to be professional and an amazing teacher.

I support Aurora

Why are we allowing an “Anonymous person” from a private school with no affiliation to the Newton School other than some students may attend in high school make employment decisions?

I know Aurora Berger and I know that nothing that has been alleged is true. There are no objectionable images on her lovely website. Think who you want to teach your children - think who you want to have power over the process of choosing that person. This is about the future of our children's education and about the future of our country. Reinstate Aurora Berger and fire the supervisory union.

Art has nudes, shall we remove it all? The human body is a work of art, science and learning.

This is ridiculous!

I worked with Newton School students this summer as a co-teacher for a one week art camp, and they shared with me that they knew their art teacher had been fired and hoped that she would return. As a former Newton School student and someone that deeply appreciates Aurora’s art and work as an educator, I would have signed this petition anyways. However, I feel extra motivated now that I know firsthand the impact this decision had on the Newton school students. Please reinstate Aurora to her position!

Following executive session, in which they discussed Aurora's termination, the board provided one very brief public statement: "Any licensed teacher is welcome to apply for any open position." I would like to propose a friendly and modest amendment: "Any licensed teacher, or individual who would be licensed had the superintendent not surreptitiously suspended them while the clock on licensure expired and then used the expired time as pretext for termination is welcome to apply for any open position."

Was a sub for her classes a few times, students missed her a lot. Shame to see diminutive rules get in the way of her wonderful classroom environment.

Her termination should be shameful to the SU.

I strongly endorse the reinstatement of Aurora Berger to her position as Art Teacher at Newton School.

I was not aware of this and can't believe that it happened!

Aurora is a wonderful teacher, a kind and caring person. The students love her!

Oh how they love to throw away art teachers. I know just how that feels. Do better, Newton School.

Do not bend the knee to stealth censorship or institutional obfuscation!

We love Aurora and her whole family and truly hope we can have her back in the Newton community

Aurora was/is an amazing art teacher!

I have worked with Aurora over many years at Vershire Summer Camp and the Universalist Society of Strafford and I admire her deeply - personally, professionally, creatively and as a dedicated community contributor. If students see more of Aurora’s work outside the classroom, they will only gain a more profound and compassionate understanding of our human family, the human body and women’s talent and strength as well as the arts and artistic community, all so desperately needed among recent currents of ignorance and repression. And they will be able to discuss these important subjects and any questions or thoughts that may arise for them with a safe, respectful, trusted adult.
