Reinstate Aurora Berger to her position as Art Teacher at Newton School

Aurora is brilliant influence for our kids at the Newton School. Her suspension was on a flagrantly inacurate reading of the social media policy, and denying her the ability to complete her licensure effort was deeply improper. Find a way to get her her license, and reinstate her as Newton's art teacher.

Are we really going to start firing teachers and administrators for their work outside of school? That's a slippery slope and not one I think many of us would like to be on. I hope the SU reconsiders. People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

Freedom of expression outside of school

I think Aurora is wonderful, but I believe the reason to reinstate her is to not be the kind of school that does something like this. This decision was reactionary, ignorant, and the worst thing you could do for the children. Not only did you deprive them of a fantastic teacher, you also vastly diminished your chances of hiring a quality replacement.

Aurora is an amazing and inspiring teacher. The personal pursuits and interests of our teachers have no bearing on their professionalism in the school nor passion for our children. Reinstate Aurora in the art program and stop punishing dedicated, beloved teachers for living their lives.

I have known Aurora since she was a little girl. I've watched her work extremely hard to accomplish the great goals she's set for herself, not allowing her personal obstacles to deter her. I have also seen Aurora's work, and they're beautiful pieces, subtle, artistic, tasteful. I believe Aurora, more than many of us has an extra protective layer built in her, because of her life experiences, that works extra hard to keep children safe. If she was fired for reasons outside of her school work....shame on whomever made that call. I hope Aurora will be brought back to Newton School. What an enormous loss for our students. ( All 6 of my children went through K- 8th grades at Newton)

Aurora should be reinstated immediately. She is a treasure to the community.
