You let a very good person go. She loved her job as much as the animals. Bad decision

Ashley has done an amazing job running the shelter and it would be a detriment to the animals to lose her

I am the Long Island contact for Adopt a Boxer Rescue. I have had the pleasure of dealing with Ms. Behrens on many occasions. I have always found her to be extremely professional, helpful and easy to work with. It is obvious how much she cares for the animals at BAS and Long Island as a whole. As a rescue we were able to take many boxers from BAS that had health issues as well as behavioral issues as quickly as possible thereby saving the town of Brookhaven thousands of dollars. Losing Ms. Behrens is a serious blow to the animals and residents of Long Island. I have serious concerns for the resident animals as well as future residents animals of BAS

Ashley turned that place around! I do not know what happened, but I'm sure whatever it was did not warrant a forced resignation! That is not the way you treat important people. If a mistake was made, you correct it and people learn from it. You do not discard someone as if they were useless. She ALWAYS went above and beyond. Worked seamlessly with rescues for the betterment of the animals and facility. You will not find another Ashley. And frankly, by the way you treated her, good luck finding anyone else that will accept being thrown to the wolves at the blink of an eye. If you do, the replacement will not have the same pride and compassion as Ashley did. We need her back.
